Promoting The Board And Cleaning Up Our Act
So, wouldn't it be cool if when New VALIANT publishes their first comic they revived the section in the back of the old comics that showed comic book stores and fans that helped promote VALIANT and the first thing they showed was this forum?
If that happened, can you imagine the ammount of people that could visit here?
What would be the first thing we want them to see?
Infighting? Talk about buying and selling VALIANT comics for profit? Or good-old fashioned discussion about the comics and the stories in them?
I think that the general discussion section could use a cleaning, there's a ton of topics here that belong in the buy/sell area or topic oblivion.
It wouldn't hurt to prepare the place for any newcomers. And Dino could help promote the site over at his VALIANT Entertainment Store too.

Well you're talking about something that's either in the far future (or may never happen) with the comics. The Valiant store is just one of a gillion other store on Ebay. People wouldn't know it from any of the other hundreds of comic stores on Ebay and the only people who would even notice the TM beside it's name are on this board.
An increased use of TO is not the answer for this board. I've been on too many sights that tightened their censorship of threads. It doesn't help stop the conflicts and usually kills a lot of good threads (frustrating the hell out of everyone). Moving (or, in the case of other sites, locking) just moves the poo somewhere else or stops it from piling it too high, but the poo is definately still there.
I don't understand why when there's a problem with a few members (out of the dozens that post here regularly) people act like it's the end of the world. Christ, go look at other boards and news groups sometimes, most are filled with poo flinging 24-7. We're doing pretty good here. If we're talking about these same conflicts a week from now, I'll be shocked.
There are some legitimate issues that need to worked out here and that needs to be done openingly and freely.

Just because it's one of many doesn't mean he shouldn't help promote the board.Todd Luck wrote:Well you're talking about something that's either in the far future (or may never happen) with the comics. Re: Promoting The Board And Cleaning Up Our Act
I think the board is just fine as it is, and when the time comes there is no guarantee that this board will be promoted as the "official" VALIANT comics board. The new owners will probably have their own site (I am pretty sure of this) and their own board (I'm guessing). Sometimes members get a little unruly here, but for the most part it stays pretty civilized 99% of the time, and since Greggie's last clamp down, it is just too nice here sometimes, and that can get boring too.ManofTheAtom wrote:So, wouldn't it be cool if when New VALIANT publishes their first comic they revived the section in the back of the old comics that showed comic book stores and fans that helped promote VALIANT and the first thing they showed was this forum?

Now THAT'S a post I can get behind.Todd Luck wrote:

Look...the reality is this...this board is FAR more cordial, FAR more polite, and FAR more courteous than just about ANY board on the 'net.
It's simple human nature: when you get people together who have very strong opinions, you're going to occasionally have conflict. How that conflict is handled is the true measure of the board's worth, not whether or not it HAS conflict.
Look, I don't know how many people have me on ignore, and I frankly (not you, Jedi

The issue comes, as always, when ONE party chooses to, for whatever reason, break ignore and go after the other person.
That's not cool, and THAT is what should be condemned by the board....not the reaction to it. It's the lighting of the match that starts the forest fire, not the other way around.
I have NEVER, EVER lit the match with malice aforethought. I have never PURPOSELY provoked a fight on these boards. If I lit it unintentionally, of course I apologize, as that's never my goal. It happens, people read something wrong on either side, and things can get out of hand...and, obviously, I'm a hotheaded German/Portueguese.
But there ARE people on the board, as in any board, who DO go out of their WAY to light those matches on occasion. And THAT should be instantly and aggressively discouraged by EVERYONE on the boards.
And it's not as if it's not obvious when it happens.
For months and months and months we've had peace and quiet around here. Three things disrupted that:
1. Justin's apparent abandonment of his obligations to various board members.
2. Vee-Kay's over the edge ranting regarding what he thinks the "New Owners" are OBLIGATED to tell him, and OWE him as a "fan", with Dino's store announcement as the impetus.
3. Vee-Kay's (again) accusations of "smearing" in regards to a discussion about Jim Shooter's involvement, or lack thereof, in the "New" Valiant.
That's it.
Everything else is just same ol', same ol'.
We're doing pretty good, all things considered.

I agree with this !!!wrunow wrote:I think the board is just fine as it is, and when the time comes there is no guarantee that this board will be promoted as the "official" VALIANT comics board. There are other boards out there that make all of this look tame in comparison. Sites that argue over Spider-Man's new costume to HEATED PROPORTIONS. This flurry of activity on this message board is yesterday's news... it's a t-shirt already.
"Wouldn't it be cool..." Yeah yeah yeah Woulda coulda shoulda. It's a t-shirt, a passing phase and nothing to get your panties in a wad over.

Real life fighting and message board in-fighting.... now where DID I draw that line in reality ?
OK now that is over with... feel free to PUKEWouldnt it be nice if we were older
Then we wouldnt have to wait so long
And wouldnt it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong
You know its gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together
Wouldnt it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through
Happy times together weve been spending
I wish that every kiss was neverending
Wouldnt it be nice
Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true
Baby then there wouldnt be a single thing we couldnt do
We could be married
And then wed be happy
Wouldnt it be nice
You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
But lets talk about it
Wouldnt it be nice
Here is to reality based message board conversation base on the fantasy based world of comics.
Welcome to the Jungle baby !!!
SAY that gives me an idea...
Fly THIS up the kissy-face flag and see who salutes it.
Welcome to the jungle
We got fun 'n' games
We got everything you want
Honey we know the names

But it's the price you pay
And you're a very sexy girl
That's very hard to please
You can taste the bright lights
But you won't get them for free
In the jungle
Welcome to the jungle
Feel my, my, my serpentine

You'll take it eventually
You can have anything you want
But you better not take it from me

Whoa whoa whoa... who says I am *SQUEE* off. I am just saying that if you want to post with a bunch of women go to a touchy feely site like www.betterhomesandgarden.com
This place has never been for the faint of heart (but is tame in comparison to other message boards - heck we can't even swear here) and for the most part this is a great message board. The flame-wars have been at THE lowest in count since I have been on here.
This weekend ? Child's play...
"Stop yer grinnin' and drop yer linen... we're going over to valiantfans.com to post some STUFF !!!"
Women or sissy-girls need not apply.

I've said once before: "Then internet has united the world... and the world found out: we hate each other!"
Let's face undeniable facts: we only get along because we usually stick to common likes and dislikes: Valiant. Sometimes we go off on a tangent and bad things happen. Strong opinions emerge... or in my case form and evolve due to other people's intolerance. And we usually either call a truce or just say "heck with it, it's not worth it".
Many wish that everyone can get along and be polite and politically correct. Unfortunately, political correctness, in itself, is hypocritical and being polite is a short hop and skip from being a pushover.
There's a country song I listen to (don't particularly like though) by Aaron Tippen called You've Got to Stand for Something or you'll fall for anything. That is never more true than today. It's a good philosophy, mainly because there so many that only have some vague idea of what's right and wrong and making up rules and beliefs as they go. It's just not enough to try and get along and please people, whether they're considered a minority or being victimized by their own shortcoming and are crying foul. One that KNOWS right and wrong may sympathize, but they also know better than to try to assist these people in any way other than showing them their shortcomings.
In other words, you've got to stand for what you believe in. Unfortunately, this what starts many of the fights and it is also what is inevitable because you simply can't ask people not to fight for their beliefs.
For those that get along and make this board a wonderful place to be: my hat's off to you. To those others: do try harder. I know I'll be.
