Tired Market?
Personally I think most collectors are pooped out and broke now. It was a nutty week with a .10 listing and, like 1,000 "good" deals floating around during the weekend. Once the 9.6 harbingers start to surfer, you know it's time to hold off the auctions until next paycheck period. Just my honest opinion. Anyone else concur or against?

I have plenty of money but it is going to be used for other things. I am going on a vacation in September so have been saving for that. I also want to win a page on Ebay so have sold some stuff as not to dip into the Vacation fund.
So don't worry about me bidding against you. At least not for a few months.

It's impossible to figure who has money and who doesn't. The way I look at it is:
People will find money even when they don't have it for stuff they "MUST HAVE!"
If only ONE person MUST HAVE the stuff and the rest really don't care then you get low auction finishes. Get two serious bidders and the rest is history. I really believe it's about being lucky enough to get a few of the important variables to come together at the right time. If it doesn't there's no fireworks but when everything lines up just right... WHAMMO! Harbie 9.8's for $400+
I guess the real question I would like to know is "Where is the ceiling?" I thought I was selling my Harbinger 0 Pink 9.8 for Top Dollar at $200+ 6 months ago. But now we all know there's a few willing to pay more than double that amount. Which I would have said you were NUTS to tell me this would happen. So now at the $400/$500 level are we finally TOPPED OUT? Or in another 6 months to a year is someone gonna drop a grand on one? Doubtful. But who knows. I certainly never saw anyone ploppin down 2 grand for a frikkin ERROR, albiet a near perfect one. Goodness.
If someone asked me what was the most OVERHYPED worthless POS in the entire Valiant Universe I would say. XO 1/2 Gold. Why? First off because it's from Wizard who's the Valiant Anti Christ, which makes it a gimmick. Then there's the Gold which elevates it to the SUPER GIMMICK level. Then toss in that it's RARE and WALLA. We've got the Ultra Gimmick! My advice if you own one and are NOT going for 100% is to Sell or Trade it for its counterparts in the Top 10.
But since no one's asked me, go ahead and feel free to ignore my oppinon.

What we need is a chart/graph to plot some of these values over the long term. IE once a year or quarterly. Anyone else seeing my vision here? I'm thinking Bar Graphs over Pie along with a running graph of various values, Collections, Runs, Singles.
Something fun that can quickly illustrate how things have been going in general. And also give some visual history of how long these have been changing hands.
I think we tend to freak out over short term hiccups, either high or low and miss the overall trend which seems pretty positive. As long as anyone cares about Valiant the things will be worth "something".
I know I'm never going to quit collecting Valiants so I'm a gamer. Anyone else here think they're in it for the LONG haul?

I have been keeping track of premium valiant sales since April in an excel spreedsheet. Of course that's only 4 months but if your interested, pm me with your email addy and I'll send you a copy. That goes for anyone else on the forums. So far the market trend has been steadly rising for the most part, vvss flat-lining after a dip and unity red, pinkies and xo #0 gold climbing fast. Your beloved x0 1/2 gold has tanked to under a $100 too. But this week in particular has started off really slow.soundoftheuniverse wrote:What we need is a chart/graph to plot some of these values over the long term. IE once a year or quarterly. I think I'm in for the long haul too, here's why:
1. one of each issue, including the variants, premiums, trades and what not, takes up about four long boxes (including a good chunk of VHII as well) -- so the collection taking up too much space is not really a factor;
2. I managed to put this collection together for peanuts compared to what these issues are selling for today -- so if I did sell the collection, It's likely that I wouldn't want to invest substantially more cash than I did the first time just to have the same books again;
3. Hopefully, I've gone past the stage in my life where I would have to sell the valiant collection because of a lack of funds. I mean if I had to sure I would, but circumstances would have to be pretty dire for me to flush the collection for what? $1,000-2,000 or so?, an unlikely scenario;
4. My valiant collection is really a 'side collection' for me so I really don't see me selling it to turn it into other comics. If the Valiants completely bored me they would just get tucked away in a corner somewhere, not sold.
I'm sure that there are other reasons why I wouldn't sell the collection too!

I too think that the summer vacation thing is the reason for the slight slump right now. ( I also agree with the X-O 1/2 Gold post). People get busy in the summertime months with the other hobbies in their life and therefore spend a lot less time looking at Ebay auctions. I find myself doing the same thing too. But it sure is a nice tribute to a long gone comic book company that they still have people scrambling to buy their books all these years after the last issue hit the stands.
