That sounds like the Deathmate tourbook.ckb wrote:I just got a book back from CGC. Its and silver and shiny and glittery and says "DEATHMATE" in the middle of it. The label says it was published by Valiant, but I don't rememeber anything like this.
I even sent it to CGC. I don't remember doing that either. Huh.

CKB If its a grade 9.8 or 10.0 that must have been mine in the mixup!ckb wrote:I just got a book back from CGC. Its and silver and shiny and glittery and says "DEATHMATE" in the middle of it. The label says it was published by Valiant, but I don't rememeber anything like this.

I went to another local yard sale advertising comics again. I wasn't too surprised to find another bunch of boxes full of 90's glut books. This guy must have been a major speculator in the day because he had dozens of copies of several books. He was quick to ask me if I wanted to buy all the books, which I of course turned down quickly, didn't even ask him for a price. After going through the books, the majority of them were worthless. He did have about 50 copies of Bloodshot #0, but I passed on those. One thing he had that I bought was 10 copies Bloodshot #7 (First full Ninjak). The reason I bought those 10 copies is because they were all autographed by our own Kevin Van Hook in silver ink. This guy must have ran into Kevin at a show and handed him a stack of books to sign. The only other books of note were the first Jim Lee art issue of Alpha Flight, and Detective #649, which is an early appearance of the new female Robin. Cost? 50 cents each, not a steal, but not bad. Maybe I could get Don Perlin to sign these and make a 10 copy limited edition Bloodshot #7 Valiantcomics.com Validated Sig Series!
Well, they don't have the pedigree of the Magnus #0 editions Dino is selling, but it was worth a shot!

It's funny that you should mention those 'tecs in the 640's...I was shocked to see then selling for something in the neighborhood of $5+.Brother J wrote:and Detective #649, which is an early appearance of the new female Robin
I have mebbe 5 of them, just out of collections I've bought. I never thought much of them, but who knows?
They are, after all, 1992 books!

Shipping was $2.95, so the total was $4.48. According to the counter, only 8 people saw the Deathmate Green Preview auction and only 14 saw the Deathmate Tourbook one. I don't know how accurate those counters are but I guess that's why I got the books so cheap. BTW what exactly is in the Deathmate Tourbook?

At the local LCS
Three hours of sorting through random long boxes, the man has dozens to go through.
Picked out a large stack of comics (about fifty) for $24 CDN.
Mostly found 1990s Batman titles but I did snag a Deathmate Preview Pink and a Deathmate Prologue gold........ and a 1982 Marvel special on Pope John Paul II!
Passed on some VF Shadowman Vol2.
All in a hard days work.

Deathmate previews are really dynamic on ebay. I've seen them for for $15 but also for $0.01. Still if you dont have a green preview thats a good price. The tourbook is a preview of the deathmate series with some sketchs but mostly profiles of the artists and writers involved. Most of them are signed with as many as 10 autographs, as they were handed out during the deathmate tour (hence the name tourbook). Its actually kinda hard to find one without sig's imho.MiamiLoco wrote:Shipping was $2.95, so the total was $4.48. Nah, highway robbery was one of the local dealers going to the Vegas con a couple of months ago and picking up over $10,000 of Golden and Atom age books for $1,000. There was a dealer there from New York who was blowing out a box of Golden and Atom Age books for 90% off (yes, 90% off) to cover his costs. My local dealer was the first one on the scene and picked up a short box full of early DC superhero comics (Batman #3, a couple of Detectives in the 30s plus a ton of others - he actually moved the box to the side so no one else that came by could see the discount sign) plus a bunch of NM 50s War and Western books that he resold immediately to some big customers for double guide. I am going to make sure I hit that show next year...........dino wrote:Someone call the cops, thats highway robbery.
