Hulk #181 in fine...overstreet value?

i've got a hulk #181 that i've had a friend of mine grade out to fine...i'm going to get a 2nd grade, just to see if they match.

i'm about to put it on ebay and i was wondering what it guides at?

i know overstreet and auction prices are entirely different and after a little digging i found a completed hulk #181 that had been cgc'ed at 5.5 and sold at $199.

to my admittedly untrained eyes that seems low...real low.

maybe the book has tanked in recent years...but wolverine is still wolverine and i can't imagine it's tanked that much.

so if someone can help a brother determine guide value on his unslabbed hulk #181 i'd sure appreciate it.

surely one of ya has an overstreet..lol

Current Overstreet prices (which will no longer be current in a few weeks):

NM $1300, F (6.0) $240

$175 - 250 seems about right for this book in Fine condition. Personally not would be willing to pay though.

The book is pretty common in high grade. It's the high grade copies that command the big bucks.

It looks as though copies described as VF on ebay are going for about $300.

I own a Hulk 181 cgc'd at 5.5.

Bummer to hear it's not selling for much.

Hopefully with the X-Men 3 movie and rumors of a Wolverine solo movie the value could go up.

Either way I won't sell it. It means too much to me to get rid of!!!

Couple weeks back was walking into my LCS as another guy was leaving. The owner calls me over to tell me the guy who just left had brought in a x-men 94 for a grade. Owner says the book was in the garage where his uncle was changing the car oil. Guess where he put the used oil filter? Yup...said the book looked like it would have been mint otherwise. Ouch!!!

i was at a comic show in iowa recently and was talking to a buddy who owes a shop near us. we've known each other for years so i have no doubt that the story he told is true. i also base it on the fact that the guy involved in this story is pretty brainless...

the guy who sets up most of the smaller midwest shows is not the brightest guy in the world. he tells the same jokes at every show and thinks he's funnier that he really is. all he does is put out about 40 boxes of comics for $0.50 each at each show, with a small rack of better books (by better i don't mean good).

so he recently picked up a bunch of boxes from somewhere, and being that this guy is rather lazy, he doesn't really look through his boxes nor alphabatize them for shows. he just puts them out, hoping to sell enough to make the show worthwhile.

apparently he sold a hulk #181 out of his $0.50 boxes at a recent show.

he should have caught on and said "NO SALE!" but, leading back to the lasziness issue, whenever you pick out your books and get ready to buy them, you just tell him how many you have and he gives you your price. he doesn't look through them, doesn't count them, just "that'll be $25" or whatever the amount is.

i don't know what kind of grade it was in, but for $0.50, who cares!

i've bought a lot of books off this guy over the years, it's just a matter of time before i hit the jackpot

Thats exactley how i found that Magnus #0 at the NY show. The guy didn't look at the little stach, just asked for a count. It's great that he's so trusting, but he missed out on a few bucks that way.

On the other hand i was reading what Daydream had to say about seeing a book that should ot have been in your .50 cent bins. Do you guys agree that the seller has no obligation to honor what his signs say? I mean if The sign on the box says .50 cents, Couldn't an argument be made for a "seller beware" situation? I've spent hours digging through $1.00 bins and occasionally I find something really nice. If the seller refuses to honor his advertising, I've just done his job for him by pulling the gems from the trash. It's happened to me often enough to know how frustrating it is. What do you guys think?

Yeah, it *SQUEE* me off. For instance, I was at my LCS that I had been going to since he opened 6 years ago and he had about 5 long boxes of VALIANTS. I asked him how much books from the boxes would be. He said $1 each. I proceeded to look through them and pulled out an X-O 1, Magnus 12, and Harby pink. I took them up to the register to purchase them and he looks through them and says, "Sorry, I hate to do this to you, but these are slabbable so I'm going to send them to CGC."

That chapped my *SQUEE* because I dug through crap to find those. It's not good to *SQUEE* off your long time customers. He ended up shutting down. I knew that if I had waited another week, it would be his wife or son in the shop and I could have gotten them all for a buck then for sure. Instead, I figured he'd honor his word, but you can't really expect that out of most comic shop guys - even ones that you have shopped with for years every week.

Yeah, I went to a local (smaller) convention in Indy about 6 months back. A guy there had a few long boxes of comics for $1 each. The guy wasn't even really selling books. He was there to pawn his bootleg DVDs & just so happened to have a few boxes of books. He tells me while I'm sifting through his books that all the books are $1.00 except the signed books, which were only $5.00 each. I hit the jackpot & pulled about 50-75 pre-Unity books out of his boxes. They were all bagged/boarded & looked to be high grade. So, I'm thinking $50-$75 & I have my stash... I hand him the books & apparently he notices I pulled multiples of books & they were all Valiant. I guess that got him figuring they must be worth something because he quotes me $300.00 for them!! I called him on his earlier price & he just started being an a$$ to me over it, so I just let him keep his books.

I can understand if you make an honest mistake, ala a Hulk 181 in a discount bin. To me, that's an honest & obvious mistake. But to do a customer like that is just begging for a boycott... :x
