What's up with Valiant posters?

Post by Shakespeare »

No, not you guys :D

It's funny...posters seem to get no respect. It seems that all promo items get great bids on e-bay, but posters seem to be the last thing people go for. Even shelf-talkers seem to do better. After all, many of you like CGC so that you can display your Valiant, but the posters just get no bids.

Example: it's from VH1 and looks great and yet can't get a bid? (not my auction, in case you're wondering)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 17415&rd=1

Most posters that went to comic shops were tacked up and then torn down...these really aren't that easy to find.

So why do you think that is? Why does it seem that Valiant posters are ignored? Why are there still a number of posters that no one has submitted pictures of for this site?

Or am I just projecting my love of movie posters onto Valiant posters?

I dont know. I know that I still have a ton of the regular comics to get before I finish my set so most of my resources goes toward that, but several of these guys have everything. I dont know why they would not take a stab at something like that. Also for that poster i did not think that it looked that great. I think that Valiant poster would have to be really awesome for me to want to buy it and hang it up on the wall...just me though. I figured some of the completionist nuts would be all over stuff like that...oh well...that is ebay...

Well, I'm just not going to pay $5 for it. If I can buy it in person, for $2, I'm all over it.

It's not exactly prime subject matter. SW isn't Solar.

Here's one for you: I won't generally buy posters because the only fun would be in displaying them, & I won't put them up as an adult in my late 20s.

Comic books are one thing--I store those in boxes that are unobtrusive. But the joy in a poster would be hanging it & admitting my vice.

B & W art is a different story (say--the XO 0 lithograph). But an ad in the form of a poster? Too old for that.

Too old for posters...I think that I would still be decorating my homes in grateful dead posters and blacklights if I did not have a GF....Of course my bedroom at my mom's house still has all of my old omic book posters on the walls...anyone need a shadowman poster? I might take a picture of it one day and post it here though I am sure that it is not rare or anything...

I got most of the posters a couple of years ago in an auction or two
from a dealer who had kept all of them. I think I paid about $3 each
including shipping. Posters are pretty cool and I'd be going after them
if I didn't already have them... but they just stay folded and out of sight...
which is kinda sad, really.

It just seems to me that even with the uber-completionists, posters seem to be the last thing that anyone tries to get, and then only half-heartedly. We have a complete list of Valiant Voyeurs, people make lists of every last variant of card, we're even making lists of direct market vs. newsstand (something that no one else in the comic industry cares about [unless it's an extreme example])

How is having comics stored unobtrusively any different than having posters stored unobtrusively? They can both be hidden and collected.
