Valiant Art
I thought that it would be neat to have an ongoing thread for new art aquisitions. Instead of having a separate thread each time someone picks something up, we could have them together in the same place. I just received a piece from Bernard Chang that--once again--illustrates what makes him one of the great artists in the field. I'll send it to Greg to post.

You know there were some major production errors with a few of the Visitor books. The art production team used the wrong resolution or something and thats why a few issues seem "fuzzy" Benard nows the facts around this. I know when I talked to him at the 2003 SDCC he mentioned the problems. I think it might have been out of focus negatives as well.dino wrote:The inks are much nicer than the printed cover. I wish they would have printed the title a little higher instead of behind his head.

Harbinger #0 Cover:

I don't like to talk about pieces until they're actually in hand; I've just had too many deals go south halfway through. Having said that, I picked this up yesterday and it just blew me away. There are no paste-ups. There is no white out. This is some of the most detailed ink art I've ever seen. How Terry Austin fit all of those delicate strokes in without needing touch-up, I'll never know. I've always liked this cover because it's one of the few with Sting just going crazy.
I was actually away from a computer for the last couple of hours of bidding on eBay, so I had my brother bid on it. He freaked out when I told him how much to bid, but he'll get over it when he sees it in person

Rai #0 Page 23 - The Last Rai (First Appearance):

I just picked this piece up this morning. I apologize for what a poor picture it is; I'll do a proper scan of it when I get a minute. Like with the Harbinger cover, David Lapham's line work is just georgeous. Tom Ryder's inks are lovely, and range from very delicate (following Lapham's maze-like background and Rai's beard) to very full and heavy (Takao's pants and boots). Though most pages in this issue suffer from paste-ups, this page has none. However there is yellowing where the word balloons have been removed.
It is different seeing the pencil/ink art without the red mark on Rai's chest, which was typically added in by the color artist for most Bloodshot/Rai work. Also in this shot, the blood on his wrists is not inked in, but added by the colorist later in production.
It always hit me as ironic that Takao Konishi is The Last Rai, but he has a son (with Magnus' girlfriend!) who grows up to be...Rai. Which makes him...? The LAST Last Rai? Ah, fun with continuity.
