Re-Reading: X-O Manowar #12

Post by xoken »

I thought we could do a book a day (that way people can read one every day or catch up on weekends), talk about it on its own, in the context of whats next, in regards to what expectations it creates and vote on how good it is. I don't have to be the one that posts everyday. If I miss a day or if someone wants to take over please do

For voting think of your single favourite comic book (not just VALIANT) as the benchmark - thats a 10 - and grade according to that.

Make sure to mention what you like'd about the book, what you didn't, what you wish they would have done, your favourite panels, lines of dialogue, little bits of trivia etc.

Mainly action. A villain to deplore and some brave spider aliens who succeeds due to their fighting skills. Some hints about Aric's arrogance towards the armor.

Good story and art. I loved the way Aric took care of Rexo!

And we are introduced to Randy Cartier.

We also learn that the X-O suit's name is Shanhara. I liked this issue, plenty of action and the story flows along quite nicely too.

I missed a few issues. Apparently we're back to very simple action stories without a lot going on. It doesn't work quite as well here.

The way Aric gets rid of Rexo is cool (yet another Shooter era character who dies within a year of Unity). The rest of the scene doesn't work as well. It was strange to see these nicely dressed, nicely groomed people the aliens have been feeding off of. All the rest of their prisoners have looked like hell. Did they clean this group up for Aric?

And then all the hostages have one mind on martyring themselves on the spot? Seems like you might have someone in their who wanted to live. And then Rexo kills them. Why? What was their back-up plan for getting the spore?

Then we have Rexo talking about how Aric doesn't stand a chance even though no one in the room has any weapons that could hurt the armor in any way. None of them could even scratch it. I don't get it. Do they just like getting slaughtered?

The X-O Commando battle was better and salvages the issue. This was a neat idea. Their was actual challenge and suspence there. And it looked great.

Oh, and I was just making fun of this a couple day ago. We have Aric say "I bet that hurts. Good" a varation of something Solar said in issue 6 we see repeated in every nearly post Shooter spider alien appearance ( I get so sick of seeing variations on that line)

A 7.

Continuity note: Previous Valiant Comics before now have shown all the non-hybrid spider aliens have green blood. How did many of them end up with red blood in this storyline? :!:
