Interesting thread.... I never purchased any Crossgen books, but recently I started buying them now that I see them all the time in the quarter and dollar bins. The more I get, the more I like them. However, I dont know too much about them.

Pardon the ignorance, but what counts as the 1st Crossgen book? Or was it a group of books that came out the same month?

Also the print run info is outstanding! I will use this thread as reference many times in the future Im sure. Thanks :thumb:

I have a Crossgen Chronicles Customer Review Copy. And it says ( Not for sale until May 24 2000 ). So it had to come out before that. Hope this helps gowaltrip . Dont know if this counts as first. Dont know if a review copy is a first or not. It dose have a nice cover. Its in color and seems to have a story. I have never read it. Bought it and put it in a bag and board. So if I ever wonted to collect them I would have some of the harder ones to get. Been to busey trying to get my Valiant, Defiant, Broadway, And Ultraverse. But I know I will sooner or later.

Have you seen the "Traveler Editions TPBs"?
I have a Scion vol 2 one.

Thanks...Im just curious what the 1st one was. You kind of learn that about many companies, but I just do not know what the 1st one was with this company. But cant say I have been into them very long either. Id say if what you have isnt 1st, its probably pretty close. But then again...I dont know.

I thought maybe Knightt or Earl might jump in to this they both have a lot of Crossgen books. They know more about them than me.

I never paid attention to this line of books but picked up 76 various issues for a dime each at a LCS. My god :o these books were extremely well done...I was surprised to find many of today's top artists on these books.

Very impressive. I'm fighting the compulsion to hunt down the rest of the line, but if more deals present themselves

Question: are there any scarce versions or issue #'s I should be looking for in the cheap bins?

No, there are not what I would call 'scarce' issues. The final days of Crossgen produced some low number print runs (as with many final issues) but nothing again that I would call scarce.

There was an agreement 'of sorts' with LCS owners... Crossgen wanted to make sure that there were at least five copies of any said number Crossgen comic in the LCS's back issue section. Not really stimulating the back issue market but making it VERY friendly towards Crossgen fans and those wanting to jump on.

The prices per issue or 'lots' is still pretty decent though. Some LCS's have prices at $1.00 (sometimes less) while some others stick with cover price AND the occassional LCS putz that wants to get Crossgen Hayday prices. OK... OK... I am giggling so hard at that one that my shoulder hurts.

Hasta la pasta...

First issues and final issues are the ones I find most of.

The 'scarce' issues are the ones you find for less then cover price.

Really?

Would any of you think that 50% off cover price is a good deal for these???

Or can I find them for less?

50% off cover is not a bad price at all. The availability of books is very regional from my travels. I may not be able to find these at all out here (not that I would want to) but go out to PA and they may be in abundance. Remember that 5 copies of every issue rule that Crossgen wanted USA-wide. It depends if they were just ordered or not... still Crossgen is a DEAD UNIVERSE and you wont find me paying anything close to decent money for these books even though I have seen what seems to be full spectrum on these books price wise. Odd thing prices...

If you feel comfortable with 50% off cover then go for it... personally, I have seen them for less but the hunt requires 'patience' and that is something that is sometimes in limited quantities.

These..

Masters of the Universe Rise of the Snake Men #1-3
Masters of the Universe Icons of Evil #1-3
Masters of the Universe Power of Fear #1

I saw at the same store for .25 each.

Worth it?

Yep, I will take 'em if they have extras.

NOTE: These are not Sigil-centric issues (i.e. have nothing to do with the Sigil story that Crossgen was telling) but are pretty good books to read. They tell a somewhat darker Masters of the Universe story.

Earl you must have started out with Crossgen when they first came out. I looked at your need list and man no way can I help him out. I'm afraid to put my needs list up. I'm just getting started out. I had no idea that Crossgen had that many books. Man it will take me a long time to get those.

I do not know if these are great prices on these TPBs or what but here is a link to a guy who seems to always have quite a few in stock.
