Re-Reading: X-O Manowar #5
I thought we could do a book a day (that way people can read one every day or catch up on weekends), talk about it on its own, in the context of whats next, in regards to what expectations it creates and vote on how good it is. I don't have to be the one that posts everyday. If I miss a day or if someone wants to take over please do
For voting think of your single favourite comic book (not just VALIANT) as the benchmark - thats a 10 - and grade according to that.
Make sure to mention what you like'd about the book, what you didn't, what you wish they would have done, your favourite panels, lines of dialogue, little bits of trivia etc.

A GREAT issue.
Aric finally understands the world around him and it's actually more interesting to see how he views the world now. There's a lot of depth here. Aric-see saws from niave and sympathetic to down right horrorifying in this issue. The scene where he decides to take over the world is still one of the most interesting ever done in Valiant Comics. Early Aric was always very close to being a villian, that's what made him so interesting.
The dialog and humor is piceless. I love how Ken reacts to the severed head (and the gaurds later remark about it). The "goat urine you call beer" line from Aric has always beens one of my favorites.
Ax is an interesting villian. He just likes to use his power to take what he wants. Simple. Realistic. Yet he has depth. The homophobia was a nice touch.
Ken also got a bit of depth here. This is probably the most interesting we'll ever see him. I love the scene where he decides he'ld rather risk getting killed by Aric than helping an obnoxius bigot like Ax
Unforgetable stuff. A 9, almost a 10

Perfect intelligent writing. The concentration of what every character is about. And it's written from how they see the world, not how we see the comic. Like Ken thinking visigoths are from Sweden. Probably the best XO issue.

I absolutely agree. The strange thing is this probably is the best X-O issue and yet their's very little action (most of it is set up for the big slug fest next issue).
