holy sh1t...everyone needs to click this link...

these people screwed a lot of people over the holiday...i can't believe this guy got away with this.

http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.d ... =-1&de=off

he basically scammed over 100 people...they paid for stuff and he never sent it. before this incident he had over 500 as a feedback rating and a satisfaction rate of 96%.

then something happened and he started taking cash for auctions and not sending the stuff.

wow...this is terrible.

Maybe he died.

That would be my first guess.

My second guess, and this has actually happened quite a few times on eBay, is that someone spent a good amount of time to build up an account....and then scam people for tens of thousands of dollars, all at once.

Useful FB system, huh?

I'd go with ZWH's second guess.

That is awful that such a thing could happen. Over a hundred people and averaging at least $300. per person 300,000 I hope the police can do something about it.

No Paypal and the elaborate reason for not taking Paypal makes me side with the second guess.

I will NEVER send a large chunk of cash for an ebay purchase, regardless of feedback, unless the seller takes a credit card payment through Paypal.

A buyer has to protect themself when larger sums of cash are involved.

Everyone on the boards should take note.

Well I only use paypal now. But when I first used E-bay I might have been taken by such a scam. I think I am more caeful now. I have never had a problem with anyone I've dealt with through e-bay yet.

Shortly after I started using ebay I encountered one of those sellers. Not long after he cashed the check I noticed a whole bunch of negs showing up on the guy's feedback. He built up his fb until he could cash in and leave everyone hanging. I was only out 100 bucks or so, but I noticed a lot of the people he shafted were out way more than that.

Yeah, in early 99, I sent a fool $180 for a set of Primer #2, and Grendel #1-3. It was never sent.

This was wayyyy back before eBay had "my eBay", and got rid of auctions after 30 days (!), and I stupidly hadn't kept the auction number, nor written it on the MO receipt. DUH.

I e-mailed eBay, asking for the number, and they replied "sorry, we cannot find it."

I e-mailed AGAIN and INSISTED that they find it....they, of course, then found it.

I still have that second e-mail.

I made eBay pay for it.

And for the record, Paypal is a nasty, stupid, poorly run subsidiary of eBay. Do not trust Paypal for ONE SINGLE SECOND. I have horror stories, as do lots of people, about how Paypal has screwed people around.

It's simply the ONLY REAL CHOICE AVAILABLE currently (by DESIGN) to pay for most auctions on eBay.

So...be wise, and if you want more info, check out:
