Greg do you use auctions like these in the price guide sales?

I had serious thoughts about bidding on these auctions.
The Solar 10 went for higher than expected, The Rai for around par, XO I thought might have been able to go higher.
I bought from this seller before in terms of his lot sales. It really is very high grade stuff even if it states VF/NM. Those ten copies of Solar 10 could really pay off if you went the grading route. I would say its a safe assumption that one or two of those copies would acheive very high NM grades from what I've seen from the seller previously.

Generally not...
It is expected that books sold as a single lot on Ebay
(multiple issues, complete runs, or multiple copies of the same issue)
would equate to some type of 'bulk discount' over the cost of individual books.
The seller 'expects' to make less per book, but they are easier to liquidate.
The buyer 'expects' to get some type of discount when buying in bulk,
usually a savings on shipping in addition to a self-imposed "X% off".

I know a couple of guys on the board have bought from jefhinds before
and may have some results of CGCing those lots of 10 books... guys?

I have recently bought a few lots from Jeff and find the books to be unread stock in NM/NM+ condition, he must have cases of post Unity books that he is unloading.

I thought the selling prices were ok, I considered bidding, but felt none of the sales was a real bargain, but if I was flush with cash I would have grabbed the X-O's.

I think the prices were reasonable for the Rai #1s & the X-O #1s. Out of these 20, you should be able to get at least 4 CGC 9.8's which you could turn around & sell for about $100.00 each.

Heh, I got three Rai #1s, as well as three Magnus #5s/Rai miniseries #1s for 60 cents. What makes Solar #10 so special?

As the buyer of both the Rai and Solars...

The Rai were about right... The Solars went higher than I wanted to go but I've been looking for really nice copies of Solar 10 for a while.

I got the books the other day, and they are in exceptional shape... easily the best I've seen.

I've done pretty good with the books I've got from Jef.He deals in graded books and I don't know if he knew what graded Valiant stuff was bringing in the beginning, but I'm sure he has to know by now.If he has a large quantity left,I'm wondering if he's not sending off to CGC quantity on certain issues to get pre-screened and then selling the lesser grade copies on Ebay.I was going after those Solar 10's too!!You can never have too many of those!

I won 2 10 issue lots. The grade I would put the Magnus books at would be @9.0 to 9.2. The X-O books would be @9.2 to 9.4. So I already had higher grade copies. I know I will not buy a lot like this from him again.

I must have just gotten lucky then. All 10 Solars look like they're 9.4-9.8 and the Rai's look like 9.6s or better.

I thought I'd submit 2 or 3 of each and see how they come out. I'll keep everyone updated...

that is the problem though..The books really need to be 9.8 or better to demand any sort of premium...anything less than 9.8 and you will lose money on the grading...Also I have to believe that the market for 9.8 valiants is going to have to start coming back to earth. There are like 14 copies of harbinger pink 9.8...How can that be a rare find? How can that be worth $500? A 9.8 Solar 10 is rare right now since there is only 1 listed in the census, but surly there are more copies out there...I think that recent sales have proved that there are significant numbers of key books out there...

Ummm... where did $500 from?
The average price for Harbinger 0 Pink in CGC 9.8 has been $150.
http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/cgcsales.asp
(16 sales have ranged from $67 to $350.)

I talked to CKB about these, since they are historic (to say the least)

Here's the rundown...

$200 - Shadowman 0 Gold CGC 9.6
$325 - Bloodshot 0 Gold CGC 9.8
$350 - Unity 1 Gold CGC 9.8
$350 - X-O Manowar 0 Gold CGC 9.8
$550 - Harbinger 0 Pink CGC 9.8
$650 - Unity 0 Red CGC 9.8

According to Comiclink, the buyer is already well-known with
previous non-Valiant purchases.

I guess these books were priced alright for him!

Congrats to CKB!

looks like the real price was $550 and the person that bought the $350 one got a great deal...

Or did I read all the stuff about the comiclink sales all wrong...now I am wondering...Not like you to be wrong...I thought that I was right, but now I am questioning myself....no wait...I remember seeing CKB change his sig line from "Cant afford stuff over 911.11" to "Sold some CGC books and I can afford stuff over 911.11"...well not exact quotes but something like that....right? :?

OH YEAH!

I totally forgot to include CKB's sales on Comiclink.
He finally got his check, so those are now "official"
and I can add them to the sales history.

Thanks for the reminder...

Ok, then what I was saying was Harbinger 0 Pink CGC 9.8 was PREVIOUSLY
averaging $150 after 16 sales on Ebay.
... and I agree $550 for one seems quite strange (but TRUE!). :D

Well, finally submitted one of the copies of Solar 10... and it got a...

9.6

Not terrible, but not great either.

The good news is that out of the same batch of books I got a 9.8 Ultimate Spider-Man #1!

If there were ever a modern age issue I'd love to see 10.0 dead mint, it's Solar #10. I've never even seen a 9.0 copy. It's not just the smudges and spine stress, the thicker cover seemed more prone to edge wearing and minor tears.

And you can be practically guaranteed one doesn't exist.

Just the nature of the book.

In fact, I can probably guarantee you Harb #1-4, Rai #1-5, Solar #1-11, X-O #1-6, and Magnus #1-14 will NEVER have a 10.0 copy found.

Valiant used cheap, cheap paper, and the books just didn't have a fighting chance out of the gate.

The ONE Rai #0 10.0 is because, by then, they could afford to use better paper and better processes.

But pre-unity 10.0's? Just not gonna happen.

On a seperate note...15 9.8 Harby pinks....ZERO Harby blues...

Harby blue...in uber high grade...very unlikely, due to the reprint and packaging natures of the book....

....= worth more than pink in 9.8...?

Time will tell.

I'm pretty sure that most if not ALL of the Harbinger #0's
on the CGC census are actually the Pink book.

I don't think CGC knew to list them as Harbinger #0 Pink
back when those were graded... so they just listed them as Harbinger #0.
Later, when they figured it out, they started listing pinks as Harbinger #0 Pink Variant.

I'm pretty sure that almost all CGC graded Harbinger #0's are Pink.

Have you ever seen a Harbinger #0 Blue in a CGC holder?

You know...I don't believe I have. That's a bad thing, too...how many other variants are like that?

But...it just illustrates my point...mayhap Harby #0 Blue is uber rare in uber high grade.
