Unity 2000 reading recommendations?

Post by shaxper »

I read the first part the other day and LOVED it. Since it was a stand-alone issue, I could just leave it there. I know the series was never finished, and that Shooter began sabotaging it at one point. So the question is whether or not I should read the second and third parts. Will they add to my enjoyment or kill what I enjoyed of the first part?

Hey! I was one of the few who was counting the days for UNITY 2000 to pop up in comic shops and bought it newstand. Nice to see another V3 reader!

As for the series itself, I have only read issues # 1 and 2 as well. I don't think reading issue # 2 will diminish much since the series never ended. I never read issue 3 though.

FYI, a few months back on EBAY, someone was selling the original art for issue #4 that was never released. I think the final bid was like $1000.00.

Yeah! The way the first issue set things up, I wouldn't have been surprised if V3 had ended up surpassing V1. I particularly liked Shooter's take on Darque, and wonder if that's what he originally had in mind for the character before the Valiant plane got hijacked and crashed into a building.

It was nice to see all the V1 gang interact for a couple issues. I especially liked SOLAR doing quite a bit in issue # 2. I didn't like Shooter's simple explanation of "alternate timelines" and stuff though to simply acknowledge all the other Valiant stuff that happened after he left. I mean, what about Solar: MOTA Hell on Earth # 4?

Anyway, I would love for someone to tell me what happened in issue # 3 of UNITY 2000, or sell me a copy! That would be nice too!

U2K had it's moments. I look at it more as a Solar tale that a
Valiant Universe crossover. I recently got some original art pages from
#2. Being a big Solar fan, I was very pleased to get ahold of these.

Unity 2000 #3 is worth picking up if just for the Magnus vs. X-O battle royale.

My take on U2K - Sure it wasn't on the level of greatness of Unity, but I have to say I was enjoying it more than most everything I'd read from Valiant in the past 5 years (1995-2000).

I thought 2 and 3 were infinitately better in both art and story, though the twist Shooter put on the death of HIS Jack Boniface in #1 was brillant. I highly recommend picking up the other two issues and reading the plots on the old Petrilak site (archived on this site) and looking at the Starlin art for 5 and 6 (I posted the link to them in one of my first posts on this board).

If he ever feels so inspired, it would be really cool if Greg could compile all that info in one place on this site (plots, scripts, artwork). Then again, the man already has enough to do around here...

I, likewise, started out with a great deal of excitement in regards to Unity 2000. It was great to see the original characters back in some fashion, and I eagerly anticipated each issue.

Then I read it all. Everything. I walked away with a great deal of disappointment, wishing that this monstrosity of a story had never been written, and thanking the stars that, at the least, it would never finish being published as "official" continuity.

I've promised a rant about this - I'll have to get to work on that soon. More details will be found there.
