Collecting advice needed

Post by shaxper »

I just recently finished off my Pre-Unity/Unity collection, and that's really as far as I care to go. I want to follow some post-Unity stuff, but I see no point in being a completist about a company that I generally stop caring for around this point.

Thing is, I've "fallen" into a Unity 1 Gold and Platinum, and despite my preachings about how much I dislike premium editions and how there isn't anything inherantly special about them other than a silly color change on the cover, it felt NICE to have comics I stared at and drooled over as an adolescent.

So the question. Should I hunt the three remaining Pre-Unity premiums and finish the set (including Unity Red....argh)? Does doing so make any sense whatsover?

I have a feeling you'll all say yes, but I'd really love to hear from the "no"s too ;)

since you already did the gold and plat....I would say you should at least be looking for a red. Other than that, maybe the unity tpb (course ZWH would say that the tpb's are a waste) Do you have the magnus vs pred books? Those might be nice, other than that you are probably "complete" in what you are doing.

No Magnus vs. Pred trade, but that was post Unity anyway. If I ever see it cheap, you'd better believe I'll buy it, but not for the going price.

no, not the trade, just the 2 issues...they were at least BWS cover art and I believe shooter stories(could be wrong on that)

Actually, those are on my list to obtain. Magnus is pretty much the only Vh1 hero I felt the need to follow from start to finish. I definately want every Magnus regular edition, and I believe those are the only two I'm missing (Original Magnus aside, but I don't count that).

Thanks for the suggestion. I've heard good things.

from a reading standpoint I wish I would have stopped my magnus run at about #43...after that it starts to get painful...really painful when compared to the first 20 issues or so...

No I wouldn't. TPBs are great, and serve a very important function. I LOVE TPBs and have dozens myself.

Paying $60 for one, however....that's where I have a problem, but it's MY problem, not one I foist on others.

But, in no way are TPB's a waste at ALL.

If you're gonna speak for me, make sure you know what I'd say first. ;)

And Shax, go ahead and get EW & A&A gold, and Unity Red...that's a nice lil' set you've got, and those three would top it off nicely!

The two essential books of any Valiant collection should be:

#1..... Harbinger Pink #0
#2..... Unity Red

These are two of the most collectable Valiant issues. So definately go for the Unity Red. I've got 2 comming back from CGC. If the grade is lower than a 9.4 on one of them, I'll make you a heck of a deal on it.

I'm all ears, my friend.

By all means, if I can obtain the final three relatively inexpensively, then there's no reason not to.

$10. Final Offer.

Hey, that's infinitely better than it's cover price of 'free'...;)

I'd say forget it all together. I never understood buying variants at all.
