I spoke with him for about an hour today and is waiting to hear from someone else first for using all 3 properties. I guess time will tell if they universe is brought back together or not.

I think that what I'd like to see if New VALIANT published Magnus again is for the first issue to be a homage to Shooter's Magnus 1, with Torque standing in front of a giant plexiglass wall and asking someone to tell him about his father.
Do a two-three page flashback recap of the events from the last few issues the same way Shooter did with the Magnus/T1 battle.
Something like that.

I hope it's not any of the comanies you mention that end up with them.Brian Thomer wrote:I wouldn't be surprised if the party interested in doing Magnus, Solar, and Turok was Dark Horse. The Magnus and Solar HCs seem to be doing quite well for them. I could also see Dynamite or Devil's Due going for them. IDW as well.

But also, at least me personally, I was disappointed with the quality of the Magnus hard covers. If they don't put more effort into those, what is the hope they would give a relaunch the effort it deserves?

I can't comment on the hardcovers since I don't have them, but Dark Horse seems to do a decent job with its other licensed properties. at least some of their Star Wars and Whedonverse books have people that were attached to the properties originally.
IDW also seems to be good at this. The work they've done to assemble a good team of creators for the Transformers license is evidence of this. they have classic Transformers creators working on their books, so if they were to get the Classic Media licenses, it's probably save to say that they'd get some of the classic creators for those properties on the books. Their Spike books also benefit from this.

Well, I didn't expect them to be perfect - they don't have the original stats to work from. If they did, it would be different in terms of the quality, and they have admitted this.magnusr wrote:Brian Thomer wrote:I think it goes without saying that most of the people around here wouldn't want any of those companies to end up with them.![]()

Knowing that, I've had no problems with the quality of the hardcovers.
There are lots of black and white reprint comics to choose from. But ok, maybe not for every single issue and I can agree it could be more logical to use the same method throughout. Then again, when Acclaim made their Classics Illustrated they started by decolorising the comics, essentially making their own stats.Byrneout wrote:Well, I didn't expect them to be perfect - they don't have the original stats to work from.
Personally I think that's an explanation, but not enough. That they mixed color schemes (by mixing pages from different prints) shows a lack of care for the quality. If they wanted to have the best original page all through, they could have bought more copies of the first printings. I really get the feeling they took the quickest route when they easily could have done better. Not just that they were limited by technique, but also a lack of trying. If they did, it would be different in terms of the quality, and they have admitted this.

Then I wonder how come Dark Horse and the GCDB list different creators, but I can't say who is wrong. Dark Horse does claim Manning did all covers... A detail, but it looks rushed and not checked carefully enough.
Btw, I still think the hard covers are very neat and I'm happy I got them. It's just that if they took unneeded short-cuts for the hard covers, then I wonder what they would do if they made a new Magnus. I mainly complain from that perspective. As such the hard covers are nice.
Still, there are positive signs for Dark Horse as well. I remember old editorials that show they understand the business very well. Maybe I should say this: If they were to remake Magnus, I do want them to put more effort into it.architect wrote:What about that figure we saw at SDCC?
