davidb wrote:The most confusing thing about the sale right now (at least as far as I can figure out) is the fact that another group, named Valiant Intellectual Properties LLC (VIP) filed for several of the trademarks days before the sale and did not even attend the auction.

The trademarks they claimed were Secret Weapons, Outcast, Rai and the Future Force, Deathmate, Quantum & Woody, Harbinger, Punx, Dr. Mirage, Eternal Warrior, Ninjak, Bloodshot, and the Visitor.

Here's a link to a Newsarama story on this : http://www.newsarama.com/forums/showthr ... ht=VIP+LLC, and to the discussion here on the boards: viewtopic.php?t=5443.

Hope this helps clear the situation up a little!
Nope Dave, you just confused it more, no offense for trying to help, bro'. We are talking about the Acclaim Video Games division, not the comics.

For those of you who are Psygnosis fans, you should check out Novastorm and ship Wreckers as well as some of the games I listed above, they are fun as hell!
Good morning.

motorhead wrote:I have a really good question here. If you are getting into video games, WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT THE ACCLAIM NAME! Acclaim as a video game developer is considered by the industry to be the worst video game publishing company of all time. This is bad when you come in lower than Titus! Talk about starting out of the gate as the under dog! Why don't I just start a new products company with the Amway name? Hey, how about a jock deoderant with the name RAID? I could also start a Hot Dog company called Tasty Rat Turds! :thumb:

Good post!

I don't know how many properties they have left, but I still have a soft spot for them ... Turok, y'know?

I'm sure Dave Mirra wants to see something happen after watching Tony Hawk make about a bazillion dollars the last few years.

BTW, the name Tasty Rat Turds is already taken.
As much as I hate to admit it, there were a few good games that Acclaim did, and I was looking forward to "The Red Star", but I just don't know if gamers feel that they can trust the name "Acclaim". I know that Comicbook readers don't, and it's because we got tired of being burnt! :thumb:

Okay, I'll call them Filling Rat Turds!
Acclaim did a great job in the beginning with the Turok games, but after a while the quality started slipping and you could tell it in the gameplay. It was like they just didn't care anymore. Armorines is a good example of a game that should have great, but turned out to be mediocre.

In the beginning? Acclaim has been around alot longer than you all think. I guess you all need a history lesson.
Actually what I was referring to was the beginning of their attempt to make Valiant games. I think most of the gamers on this board realize that Acclaim was around long before they started making games with Valiant characters.

Rowr, pssst. You said in the beginning, man. Calm it down a little, LOL. I was just clarifying it for the people who didn't know that. I was pretty sure you and I both knew what you meant. :thumb: If I offended you with my worthless videogame blather, sorry, my bad. :D
Good morning.

Ok, I would have to say buying the name is a good move, not the smartest or the best, but a good one. For me, I think it is because of all the 'free press' they will get and already have.

Now, all we need to see is if they'll make any good games... :P

Can't remember if this was posted before, but Turok has already moved on to Buena Vista:

Since they acquired the rights in May you would think they could give more details about it now and a possible release date.

This is the web site of the studio that will make the game. There's nothing on there yet, though.

When I talked to one of the Buena Vista reps, they said a new Turok game
would be out in 2007. They just released a Nightmare Before Christmas
game, I'm curious to see how well it does for them.

TUROK! In 2007? This is utter crap! Not that I want them to rush the new game like Acclaim did with the last one, but 2007? That is a bit far away. At least it wont be as bad as the wait for Duke Nukem Forever. I have been waiting for years now, and still will probably never see the game.
Good morning.

As long as it's going to take I just wonder if they are planning on waiting for the next generation system to release it.

X BOX 360 releases next month, Nintendo Revolution releases sometime later this year, and the PS3 releases sometime next year. Dev. kits should be available.
Good morning.

X-Box 360 U.S. launch will be November 22.
Nintendo Revolution will launch in Japan in Spring 2006 and likely Summer '06 in the States.
PS3 will hit Japan Spring '06 and probably Fall '06 in the US.

Hmm... interesting
The defendants engaged in numerous acts of self-dealing, corporate waste and other acts of gross mismanagement which caused damages to Acclaim and it's creditors.

Yup, and this is the reason why Acclaim was killed in both electronics media and the, well, media of all kinds! Right when things started going well for the company back in 2002 they decided to kill themselves with more terrible games. I magine how the employees at the Texas office felt when they showed up for work after their weekend and were locked out without any notice.
Good morning.

I remember seeing pictures of the Acclaim offices and some of the stuff they had during the bankruptcy. It looked like they were trying to compete with Donald Trump.
