Am I being cheated? Anyone know this guy?

Post by PeteCole333 »

Hey all,

I sent this guy a check for 325 dollars for the Unity Diamond books. He listed it on ebay as 'best offer.' He wanted 375. So, I told him that I'd give him 325, but he'd avoid ebay and paypal fees.

He agreed. So, he 'declined' my official ebay offer. I sent him the check, plus a few bucks for shipping. He cashed the check on Oct. 4th.

I sent him a message twice now asking if he sent the books out yet, and no response. He has a good track record on ebay... lots of positive, no negative feedback.

But in any event... 325 dollars is just too much money for me to let this go. I have no recourse though ebay or paypal or a credit card.

Any ideas what I can do to either get my money back, or to get this guy to send me the comics?

Really, he may still be sending them... I'm just worried by the lack of response. Anyone know him? His ebay screen name is "jbright000"

Okay... so... that's me getting my frustration and concern over this matter off my chest. Hope someone out there knows this guy or knows a way for me to get my money back in case the comics never arrive.

Thanks all.

Dude, hate to say it, but you didn't handle that well. I doubt you have any recourse at all. If he cashed the check in early Oct, it may be on the way still.

At least he hasn't relisted the books yet, that's a point in his favor. And another one of his sales from the same time just left him a positive on 10/13; maybe yours is still on its way.

But if a check was mailed for goods, and those goods are never delivered, isn't that mail fraud?
I would agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Sometimes paranoid sellers like to wait a week or so to make sure the funds totally clear with your bank. Hopefully, this is the case. His feedback seems great so far, but the lack of communication on his part is very lame.

Where does he live?

Your best bet is to have a board member who lives close by, pay him a visit to "collect" the books.

Hey all,

Thanks for reading and considering my situation. I thought perhaps someone selling the unity books would be a known person on the boards, or at least a person someone here had heard of.

In any event. He finally replied today. Said he was away this past week and hadn't gotten my messages until now. He'll send out the books this week.

I'll be nervous until they arrive. but at least I feel better now that he's responded.

All in all... a good lesson may be learned from this: Protect yourself!!!

I hadn't even realized just how open I had left myself to being screwed until the books didn't show up and I didn't get a response. Suddenly, the wheels in my head began creaking around, and it was like "ummm... *SQUEE*"

haha.

But, it does appear that he's on the up and up, and I expect the books will eventually show up.

Thanks for your words of advice, and your suggestions.

-Pete

I wouldn't hestitate to send him a link to this topic; if he sees that the collecting community (or part of it anyway) is aware of the situation, he may be more accommodating in completing the sale in order to avoid getting a bad rep.

I've bought from this guy before, don't worry, you will get your books, but I'd recomend that you stay on him as he is a lazy pain. He always uses the same excuse of being "out of town." I refuse to buy from him now because he likes to take forever and a day, but if you are late by one day getting back to him, he throws a fit. Not to worry you, the books will come.
Good morning.

That's a good idea, but I would wait until the books arrived (now that he has finally responded) before sending him the link.

For anyone still reading this thread...

Just wanted to say that the books arrived today. They are both in great condition too.

So... I was a little scared there for awhile, but it all worked out.
