There seems to be a question of my shipping cost. My books are boxed in 7 of the smaller comic boxes. They were done to better fit in a closet and are much more convenient to move around. Each box is extremely heavy, thus the cost of shipping.

Anyway, I probably should have said in my description that if anyone used the BIN option, it would be free shipping. It would have probably moved faster.

Also, for those of you that are on the boards...the Predator/Magnus TPB IS included. It was inadvertently left out of the description.

And finally, for those of you who don't believe that the entire collection is worth something...I have had numerous offers for me to end the auction right now. The latest offer is at $2,500, AND it is from a board member. But as I stated above, I'm kinda of curious to see what this auction will bring.

no one said it wasn't worth anything-some feel that it would have gone higher earlier in the year that's all...but really it's not going to sell for much so i'll pay the shipping and you can just send it to me... :P

i hope it goes sky-high for ya!

I knew listening to you guys that kept sending me IM's would help me. I had an offer of $2850 plus shipping. I informed the person that I would accept the offer...but I would not take the auction off EBAY until I got a deposit. That was two days ago, and I have not had an email from this person since. So the auction is still running strong...5 days are left. Thanks again for your wisdom, board members.....

Less than two and a half days left, 328 people have viewed the auction, 31 are currently watching, and the current high bid is VERY close to the reserve. This is fun!!!!!

FYI to the board members, if anyone DOES decide to go BIN, the shipping cost will be FREE. This is ONLY if the auction sells using BIN to a registered Valiant board member. This is a special notice given only to the board members, the standard Ebay customer does not know this...

This is just a small way to say thanks again to all the board members for your support!!! It also allows me to move the books to people that I know will appreciate them.

For what it is worth, I have known riptide_soccer (Joseph) for a few years now and I have to say that he is probably one of the better human beings on the planet that I have ever known. He is honest, straight forward and has his priorities in the right order. I have shared an incredible amount of great emails with him talking about everything from old comics to family and I just really like the guy.

Out of the blue right before my back surgery, I remember that the guy sent me a really decent sized box of OLD comics (Captain America, Nick Fury and his Howling Commandoes and Iron Man as well as this old $.10 cent Detective Comics issue in beautiful shape... my prize comic and oldest book to date) for me to 'read' while on recovery.

I hope that this collection goes for mega bucks for him as he put a lot of time, money and heart into this collection. I KNOW it must have been hard for him to finally let it go... but I admire a man who is honest, straightforward and has his priorities straight !!! :thumb:

WOW..those were some kind words, Chris. You have been a great friend, and I appreciate all you have just said.

Words cannot express the debt that all of us on the boards owe you...from the fact that you have willingly sacrificed your health and safety for this great country, to the fact that you now raise funds for a cause that is near and dear to both of our hearts...CF. We need more guys like you on these boards.

Again, thanks and I'll be talking with you later.

It was met because of a bidding war between comicman and....comicman!

eBay advice: never bid to meet reserve.

Better eBay advice: Never bid. Snipe only.

Oh hey now, these words are way over the top... the Army provided me all these snazzy uniforms and actually PAID me an extra $110 to $150 a MONTH to shoot at bad guys. It don't get no better than that !!!

Well, no action after all, unfortunately. If comicman backs out and you are looking for a buyer in the same price area, drop me a PM!

I don't think 'congrats' are in order. Riptide was saying that he was offered much more than the winning bid, but for whatever reason those offers did not materialize into bids on his auction. So, it sold for $2,000 when he was expecting north of $2,500.

:(

I'm surprised that it didn't get at least one or two last minute bids.

Just big talkers, looking to scoop something. I doubt any of the offers were actually solid, like the big one he tried to take someone up on.

No one should be surprised that this did not go higher, it is pretty cool it went as high as it did. If you look at the sample "one-of-everything" inventory, the wholesale value listed is about $1400. This collection had a few nice extra goodies, too, and the wholesale value on some of the big value preumiums brings them lower than they need to be. Still, should the sale go through, the buyer will be paying $2250, more than 50% over wholesale, and more than half of the "guide" value (which is just under $4000).

I think congrats are well in order for this. "Boo" to the fakers with their empty offers. Unless it was all hype. (Very unlikely. There are people out there who get their jollies from pretending to know what they are doing. Until they get called on it. I've had it happen to me as well.)

By the way, I say "should the sale go through" since it's not over until you get paid. Please tell us when you get paid, Riptide. I know if I was the winning bidder, I would be pretty bitter about winning at $2K when the next highest bidder was $1500. This is one of the reasons why some people pass on all auctions with a reserve.

Wow....was I surprised at the outcome of my auction. But, what the heck, it DID bring my reserve price. I tend to agree with all of you guys that posted after the fact....
1) Brother J...thanks for the congrats!!!
2) MrWoogieMan...I also agree with you. I was offered numerous times to end the auction early for over $2500. All of them wanted to negotiate shipping, which I would have done if they had used BIN...and told each of them that. But when it came time to step up to the plate, the emails stopped. Whether I was calling the bluff or not....I guess I will never know.
3) Daniel Jackson....YOU were surprised??? How about me...LOL.
4) CKB....See MrWoogieMan comments....and you are probably right...the next time I probably will get more action on an auction without a reserve. As for my price, well I just think that the whole VH1 universe was a very special, well written part of comic history. It made my early 90's, and then again the last two years, one of the best times I've ever had collecting comics. Thus, I priced them according to my heart, and not my head. And it STILL made reserve.

Who knows, if the new owner's shop these characters around to some of the more established comic book companies (DC for example), and the characters make a comeback, then all of these back issues will continue to do nothing but increase in value. Hopefully you guys will continue to support the cause. I know that Comicman will be happy if the books increase in value, because as of last night he won a helluva collection.

Finally, before I sign off, I have some duplicate Golds, Premiums and VVSS books that I will placing in an auction more towards Christmas. So stay tuned for that. I'll probably give the Boards first crack before Ebay.
