Your last Valiant issues
On the re-reading forum we discovered atleast 4 people who had all made Eternal Warrior 27 their last issue. So it got me to wondering when everyone else dropped their titles back in the day. Of the titles I was following on a regular basis my last issues were
Turok 7
Secret Weapons 10
Bloodshot 8
Rai and FF 19
Magnus 34
X-O 29
Solar 28
Dr Mirage 3
Eternal Warrior 27
Shadowman 31 (my last regular Valiant issue)

Magnus 34
X-O 29

Dr Mirage 3

Shadowman 31 (my last regular Valiant issue)

Having read the issue I don't blame youUnblessed wrote:Magnus #37, June 1994.

Seriously, I considered quiting within a month or two after that two. Defiant just went down and that was majority of what I read. DC had already run me off all of their titles, I wasn't interested in Marvel yet, and Valiant was going down the tubes. After I dropped Shadowman, I think I was down to Sin City and Madman or something like that.
My retailer in one of his better moments, gave 5 comics to borrow and read. I bought two of them (Starman 1 and Invisibles 1) and followed them after that. That's probably why I'm still collecting today.

I stuck it out until the end....Unity 2000 #3....although I lost some interest after Chaos Effect, & I only bought a few of V2 titles....Magnus, X-O, Shadowman, Quantum & Woody, & Solar/Eternal Warriors whenever they would come out.
TO RAI-FAN: Why are you called Rai-Fan, when you didn't like Rai after #9? Are you just a fan of the Magnus flipbooks & issues #1-8? Just wondering...

Early 1994. I was flunking out of college, parents kicked me out, so I landed a union job at a sign company in northern Indiana.
Since then, I have tried to piece it together, but graduated IU (in 2004) in the process and have recently added other hobbies.
I feel like Roy Hobbs in the Natural a bit.
Trying again after all these years. Aimin' for the lights in right field, baby.

I didn't make it past the Chaos Effect. Just got bummed out. Don't remember exactly what caused me to stop, though I think it was around the time my LCS went out of business.

For me it was after Chaos Effect. I didnt just stop collecting Valiant, I stopped collecting comics for about 6 or 7 years. I feel in general, comics just went downhill regardless of company.
Valiant line to me lacked direction after 2 years, just look at X-O Manowar for instance. Shadowman after issue 30 was quits for me. Solar around 36 and Bloodshot 10. Couple the lack of direction with a lack of funds and it was quits for me for quite some time. Ironically some of the ones I hated, Ive come to enjoy after rereading them.

Yeah, when Dr. Noel was killed, I felt it was really more like a chore to read them. The Dec '93 issue, the "Christmas one", I didn't like it that much, either. The "buy Rai and Magnus" gimick didn't brood well with me nor my budget, too.Todd Luck wrote:Having read the issue I don't blame youUnblessed wrote:Magnus #37, June 1994.

Unity Rai, cool guy. "Blood of heroes" Rai... drop "the future force" and I'll get back to you.

Dr Noel died the cheapest death in the entire Valiant Universe. Of course Orstrander had lowered his IQ so much it would make him legally *SQUEE* but I could say that about a lot of VH-1 characters he wrote. I was really resentful of having to buy Magnus (which I hated) to read Rai (which i enjoyed) during Orstrander's run. After he left both series got worse real quick. Magnus's reaction to 1-A's death was just comical.Unblessed wrote:Yeah, when Dr. Noel was killed, I felt it was really more like a chore to read them. Gotta tell you, I sold my entire modern collection (which was only about 8 or 10 long boxes) to an old millionaire boss of mine right when I was about to start law school in 1993. This guy was like a personal patron saint and I only think he bought the books as a way to give me some cash because he respected that I was going back to school on my own without help from mom and dad.
Anyway, I asked him about my old collection last year and he told me that they've been sitting untouched in his warehouse since I brought them there in '93. He said I could have them back if I wanted by paying what he paid me for them. I'm hoping he'll just give them back to me at some point...
In any event, I can't remember the last Valiant issues I bought, but they're sitting there untouched since '93 when I stopped collecting them. Time capsule style! If I ever do get that collection back, I'll be sure to bump the thread and post my finds. I know for a fact that I traded something and paid cash to get a Magnus 0 with card that had a $100 price tag on it at a show in '92, so that one's still in there at least...

If I remember correctly, I stopped buying Valiant right around the time that they did the first card promotion with the cards inserted into the comics. Actually, I think I stopped a few months before that, but the card thing nearly rekindled my interest, made me look, and then I decided against it.
Soon after that Ironman started sucking tremendously, so I dropped comics altogether at that point until around the beginning of Ironman Vol. 3 which got me back into it...

Knowing what I now know, 20/20 hindsight, I would have never picked up Valiant comics back in the day. Valiant started killing off the Gold Key characters (the supporting cast) with Magnus #22. It's worse than biting the had that feeds you.Todd Luck wrote: Dr Noel died the cheapest death in the entire Valiant Universe. Had I know more about Gold Key and its importance to Valiant, I would have never made Magnus #22 the first Valiant issue I bought. All supporting Gold Key characters should have been treated with the respect of Magnus #12. Magnus #12 is a great tribute to the Gold Key legacy in the Valiant universe.
