Wizard #153 - Valiant Prices!!!
Anyone see that Harbinger & Magnus Robot Fighter were listed in Wizard #153? Most pre-unity issues were highlighted with prices going UP!

I think Harbinger & Magnus first appeared in Wizard #151...hillmanthe2nd wrote:Yes, those were the only 2 Valiant titles I found. Interesting that no Solar or Rai were listed or even Unity.greg wrote:Interesting...
Were these the only two Valiant titles listed?
(since the mid-1990s, that is)
I guess there's "limited space" and they're using
Magnus and Harbinger as "flagship" titles representing all of Valiant.
If anyone didn't know about Valiant before, but they are intrigued,
they'll probably figure out that Magnus and Harbinger
aren't the whole story. I know a website that might help.

It's funny you should mention that...Brother J wrote:Where did they come up with the big price difference on the prices for Magnus #0 with and without the card? At those prices, I'll take Magnus #0 without card all day long over the carded version.
I bought an old copy of Wizard #7 the other day
(some good pre-Unity Valiant interviews, X-O cover)
and they listed Magnus #0 with card for $30,
and Magnus #0 without card for $2.50!
Harbinger #1 was still $1.95. I WISH!

Ahhhh....Wizard #7. The first direct/newstand variant, cause they didn't sell X-O on the stands.

I have to say I understand the price variance. I know I am not interested in a Magnus 0 w/o the card unless it is ridculously priced. So, I guess it's guys like me that drive the price up. I know it is an official variant, but to me it's the same as an opened TPB. Sure, Overstreet, CGC, and many other don't recognize a difference, but in my mind there is one.

I seem to recall an interview where someone said the dealer inventive issue was not going to flood the market and devalue the mail away, but that they wanted to meet demand for the first Valiant story ever written.
I believe the person being interviewed went on to say that leaving out the card on the dealer issues was a way of keeping the mail away version 'special'.
To me there is a clear difference in these two books, and the one with the card should rate above the one without, even if the print runs are close, simply due to the fact that you had to 'ruin' 8 coupon books to get one.
