Gold Key: Alliance Dynamite Reboot

I'm excited to see Mighty Samson back in the mix. He's a favorite of mine. I realize he's not from the Valiant era but if they ever get the Gold Key characters legally and wholly I'd like to see him involved.
After a year+ away I think I can commit to this one title. Unsure if it's a mini, a maxi(12 issues) or ongoing until they decide to cancel it.
Coming April 6, 2016

The only thing that looks to be the same is Erica is still Solar.Turok, Dinosaur Hunter. Magnus, Robot Fighter. Solar, Man of the Atom. The Mighty Samson. The legendary heroes whose adventures have thrilled comic book readers for over half a century are back, only this time they all share the same time and the same world - ours! In this breakneck first issue, each warrior wrestles with the perils of the twenty-first century, but a greater evil is approaching, one that will unify the legendary champions in a struggle that will change each forever. Join Eisner-nominated writer Phil Hester (Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, The Bionic Man) and rising star artist Brent Peeples (Last of the Greats, Legenderry: Green Hornet) for the latest and greatest chapter in the Gold Key saga.

I love the cover! But of course I will never buy it, as I NEVER buy Dynamite stuff.

I'm surprised they didn't call it "VALIANCE" or "ALLIANT"
(...and misspell it "ALIANT")

Samson, Ms. Solar, Magnus, Turok... and Charlie Sheen.
Whatever sells, right?

Nice cover, but I won't buy any Dynamite books. Let me know when it fails and Valiant buys the rights.

I'll assume 4-5 issues over the course of a year, then nothing for another year after the last issue hits, assuming the last solicited issue is actually released.

Where are we going and why am I in this hand-basket?
Re: Gold Key: Alliance Dynamite (sucks!) Reboot
So wait we get female Solar but black Magnus is just ignored? Good to see continuity is strong in comics still

Re: Gold Key: Alliance Dynamite (sucks!) Reboot
I snagged the first three issues in the Comixology sale. We'll see if they're any good. Also, holy heck I've been gone from this board for awhile.
Manga, comics, who cares? They're pretty much the same thing.

So, yeah, it's pretty good so far. Well-written, serviceable art, but not particularly deep. It's a fun summer crossover. People not reading it aren't exactly missing anything.

Re: Gold Key: Alliance Dynamite (sucks!) Reboot
Last issue hit today. I may read it in trade if I can bring myself to buy a Dynamite book.
BTW I heard they are done with the Gold Key license.

I'm surprised the last issue didn't take place in easter bunny land with ompaloompas as a villains.
I Miss the good old days.

Re: Gold Key: Alliance Dynamite (sucks!) (sucks!) Reboot
I have been confused from #1 on this series. However, #5 was not that bad. I actually enjoyed it. It threw a few bones to the VH1 days in my opinion.sonicdan wrote:Last issue hit today. I may read it in trade if I can bring myself to buy a Dynamite (sucks!) book.

And it is great news to hear that they are done with the Gold Key license!!!

Now if I can just hit the lottery and buy the characters outright ....

I finally got around to finishing this series. Mess. There was no story. Like, at all.

So - just read issue 1. Got them all cheaply. Supporting LCS. Didn't even know they were publishing until it was done.
Will update and write reviews. Really. On my website as I get there.

Gold key Alliance felt like a conclusion to a series that never happened.
The payoff was unearned

None of the Dynamite GK stuff that I read was very good. I think I read the first issue of this one but didn't go any further.cg1991cg wrote: Fri Dec 15, 2023 3:02 am Gold key Alliance felt like a conclusion to a series that never happened.

Re: Gold Key: Alliance Dynamite Reboot
I skimmed the first 4 issues of this and then read the last issue, which wasn't terrible actually. Very much standard fare for these types of 'events' that have been so common over the years. Its very comparable to Resurgence. And even Unity 2000.
I'll give Resurgence the nod for the art. GK:Alliance art by Peeples is serviceable but lacks the detail and polish you'd like to see in an event book like this.
Compared to Resurgence, I liked the writing on this slightly better. Maybe it's because this is from 2016, before 'Whedon-itis' had taken over all of comics, but people actually talk normally for the most part, every other line isn't a quip or a joke.
The ending was pretty cool, again standard for an 'event' comic but it at least hit the notes decently.
Comparing these two events makes me question which universe actually has the better stable of characters at this point, Gold Key or Valiant? Maybe its still Valiant by a little, but not by as much as it used to be.
When you add in Dr. Spektor and Brain Boy (who isn't in this series) there's a lot of potential to replace Shadowman and Harbinger (Pete). The top three GK characters all have flagship potential and I would argue have more cachet than the Valiant top three (X-O, BS, SM).
The main problem with the GK3 is that they work best in their own unique setting (Magnus-future, Turok-Lost Land, Solar-present day) and not as well in a common, shared setting.
