I will be honest, I watched most of it. Not from start to finish _ manly because I should be doing something else right now.
Thankyou for sharing, really enjoyed what I saw. Thankyou for doing it.
WIll watch start to finish later

I wish their was a Spinal Tap comic, and I had a copy CGC graded at 11.

I will be honest and hope everyone else will be....start at 41:00 and watch for a while and you'll be surprised to learn some things and not go blindly in to the night. There's a lot there to support my claim of scam but one nugget is this...from JayJay's lips..."It's a one shot so it's a fan project so doesn't violate whoever owns the IP and trademarks." I'll let the attorneys among us give their view, if courageous enough. JayJay also says she was starting to write the crossover but before she could finish, "They" closed defiant down. At the time, she was working with Shooter and Weiss so she hopes they can help her finish writing the crossover, even though Shooter told her he would not participate in writing.
Look, I don't have a dog in the race but this is not what it seems to fans.
I encurage everyone to support the effort if they want, help them reach 60k for their fan project and get a book or two in the process. As for me, no thanks.

How does a fan project = scam? Scam means they would be intentionally trying to defraud the customers and not deliver what they're promising. Don't support it if you don't want but using the word scam is false. How is it 'not what it seems'? Shooter wrote the plot and is Consulting editor with Janet scripting, just like it was going to be back in '94.reddog wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 8:39 am I will be honest and hope everyone else will be....start at 41:00 and watch for a while and you'll be surprised to learn some things and not go blindly in to the night. I thought it was funny in the interview that she didn't think Valiant used any of her Eternal Warrior ideas, but then goes on to describe the Immortal Enemy not knowing that's exactly how they did it in the comicsSouthernComicGeek wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2025 6:01 pm If you are so inclined check out the recent interview.

I'm thinking the same as you. If this was a scam, they'd be trying to rip us off by not delivering the prmoised goods.Ryan wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 10:03 amHow does a fan project = scam? Thinking the same as someone else has little relevance here. A scam involves "rip us (anyone) off". Not just you or whoever kickstarts this project but ANYONE.

So you're saying they're going to take our money and not deliver on the comics? Because a scam usually involves ripping people off, which is usually the consumer. or (as it is defined): a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation?reddog wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 6:06 pm Thinking the same as someone else has little relevance here. Does it sound deceptive or fraudulent?
And thinking the same as other people does have a lot of relevance. I don't think it's a scam, much like other people on here.

Agreed. They might not make the funding goal or whatever, but Jake and Zack are bona fide Defiant fans doing this out of fandom and love for Defiant. The Chosen 1 wrote: Tue Jan 21, 2025 7:28 pmSo you're saying they're going to take our money and not deliver on the comics? The books might not meet everyone's expectations, it's a 30 year old story at this point, but it's ridiculous to suggest the whole thing is an elaborate scheme to defraud everyone.

I listened to this today. Lots of fun.
I didn’t know the Solar Alpha Omega page was like 6 feet, or that it was sold at Sotheby’s. Maybe Heritage?
I’m curious where this giant cache of Marvel colors went.
I would totally buy JJ’s book on coloring in the industry.
My memories are faded and distorted with time. If she made any mistakes, I’m sure it was similar reaching in to the depths of memory. And not important ones,

yeah, it sounds like they are stealing these characters and selling comics with them without permission. man, i really hoped i was wrong here.reddog wrote: Mon Jan 20, 2025 8:39 am I will be honest and hope everyone else will be....start at 41:00 and watch for a while and you'll be surprised to learn some things and not go blindly in to the night. Hello!
This is my final post on the matter here.
I made a video, as its far easier than typing.
There are aspects people don't understand. It's not black and white, and there are more things going on than people realize.
Love all the detective work though!
Here is the link, I made a live forum response video for this topic
https://youtu.be/ALST4AGb8ec
Unfortunately. I don't have the time to respond daily, and the hate/lack of critical thinking was unexpected.
I will make this for you and call it done.
Thanks,
Jake

Re: Jay Jay interview and Valiant/Defiant talk
The Valiant fandom is much smaller and more fractured than it used to be. There's a segment of the 'fans' who want to discredit Shooter at every chance they get, I think because then their preferred version of Valiant (VEI) gets more credit? I'm not totally sure, but its weird.midnightonearth wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:22 pm Hello!

Part of it is just the nature of public attention, especially in the internet age. The more attention something gets, the more both positive and negative reactions will be generated.
There's a lot of people who fully support your efforts on Valiantfans, it's best to just ignore the haters and trolls.
Re: Jay Jay interview and Valiant/Defiant talk
This is such BS, victim card nonsense. Literally no answers to the simple and important questions being asked. No answer to Jayjay Jackson inadvertently outing the project as unauthorized. No answer to the fact David Lapham was unaware and has no deal in place after it was said that everyone is aware and being taken care of. A slew of insults. Too many uses of "come on". And most insultingly, the old 'trust me, we've got big things going on and if we acted like professionals and gave you answers it would jeopardize that'. Glad you are gone, good riddance to crap like that. You sound like the zoom suit guy when he was over here trying to swindle valiant fans members. This is an important place in comics history, don't come over here and immediately try and monetize it. This is the home of the Valiant candle. If not for the board, the Valiant flame would have gone out. Thanks to Greg the community survived and grew. This the home that turned Dinesh from a fan into the person that willed the second golden era of Valiant into reality. He was made here which means VEI was made here. Whatever the future holds for Valiant will come from here. And the future greatness Valiant has in store will be demanded by, protected by and willed into existence by the members here. Don't let the door hit you on the way back to your failing, misrepresented kickstarter.midnightonearth wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:22 pm Hello!

Re: Jay Jay interview and Valiant/Defiant talk
PS this is also the home of the secret weapons 23 project. If you had done your research you would have known that your project isn't a never done before project. It was done here first...and with full permissions and blessing of the owners.
Re: Jay Jay interview and Valiant/Defiant talk
I'll make it so simple.
- Who is the current owner of the intellectual property that you are selling (defiant characters) and have they given you permission to monetize their assets?
Here's a clue, so you don't try and worm out of a straight answer for the 12th time. It isn't any of the creators you keep mentioning anymore than Rob Liefeld can give you permission to do a Deadpool comic as a kickstarter. And there is no reason you need to hide behind 'we've got big things coming so we can't answer'. There's literally nothing that anyone could have planned that should prevent an answer, and more importantly, there's nothing that should be more important than making sure the customer knows they are not buying stolen goods. It's as simple as saying, Dreamworks owns the characters and we got permission.
Easy.
Unless you haven't got permission...

Re: Jay Jay interview and Valiant/Defiant talk
To Jake's -- undefined, vague point re: how long the campaign has been up on the Kickstarter site, if the copyright owners were against this project they likely would have already alerted Kickstarter to suspend it, much like how CBS did the Star Trek Axanar Kickstarter all those years ago.
I do reiterate that the lack of a copyright notice that clearly defines that these intellectual properties belong to Dreamworks Classics or whoever may own them anywhere on the campaign page was an oversight.

Jake doesn’t really give any new information besides the questions that people want that are going to be answered in the future. Maybe things are still in the works and doesn’t want to reveal information that can end up hurting the project’s future and possibly Defiant’s future as a whole.midnightonearth wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 1:22 pm Hello!

But going by what Jake said, the details in regards to the ownership of the characters is sorted. I also talked to JJ myself and she may not be in the know regarding the rights or just playing those facts close. For JJ, this is a writing job and maybe not so much in the business side of things.
Personally I don’t see this as a scam. I’m hoping the Kickstarter is able to reach its goal - really my only question is what happens to the book if the goal is not reached.
I’m glad Jake came over here to talk about Schism. I was originally skeptical myself and now I’m not. That’s just me. I hope that Jake does come back to talk about the project. I’m not going to goad anyone who looks badly upon the book. Everyone has the right to have reservations.
I do also agree that if there was some sort of copyright issue that the Kickstarter would be taken down and that has not happened. Not saying it still couldn’t happen, but as for right now it hasn’t.
Someone should also post this link it the Schism thread, if they haven’t already.

Re: Jay Jay interview and Valiant/Defiant talk
The Zoom Suit guy was John Taddeo who was a huge Valiant fan promoting his own book. Lord knows I promoted my quickly cancelled book when it came out in the 2000s. And I believe Taddeo won the auction for the Valiant characters but stepped aside after the trademark issues (feel free to tell me I’m remembering this wrong as it’s been close to 20 years). But Taddeo wasn’t some guy who just walked off the street with a new comic to promote. Just my two cents.syzhang28 wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 4:48 pmThis is such BS, victim card nonsense. Of course, most of all, JayJay was great.
