I never liked Ditko when I was younger, because I thought his drawings were too primitive and 'ugly'. But I've gained an appreciation for his storytelling and design as I've gotten older, he was a true master. Definitely one of Shooter's biggest influences in drawing (just look at the Spectacular SpM issues Shooter drew, totally Ditkoesque) and writing, right down to their mutual love for the 9 panel grid.ManofTheAtom wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 10:15 pmNope.Ryan wrote: Fri Jan 03, 2025 9:20 pm You've obviously never read the original run of Dr. Strange. I don't think there's been anyone in comics more against magical thinking than Ditko. There may be fantastical 'mystical arts', but its all very consistent and credibly handled.
Sounds cool.

Re: VH-2 Reprints?
I forget which issue it is, but there is one in X-O Manowar in which Aric refers to Solar as a wizard.
That is just how his primitive mind interprets Solar's abilities to manipulate matter (were there wizards in 408 AD, or did he see that on TV when he arrived in the present?).
Solar is no more a wizard than the Edgewater reactor was a wish machine and the Cosmic Cube is a magical device.

Re: VH-2 Reprints?
Solar’s powers were so sufficiently advanced that he is indistinguishable from a wizard. Except for the wizard hat.
Edgewater behaved like a magical device.
Cosmic Cubes absolutely are magical. Magic powered by energy. They have more in common with shamanistic totems (at least in legends) than with anything technological - god of the gaps not withstanding.

The Cubes themselves are advanced forms of technology. It is the energy they channel that alters reality in a way that appears indistinguishable from magic (but isn't).Chiclo wrote: Sat Jan 04, 2025 9:02 pm Solar’s powers were so sufficiently advanced that he is indistinguishable from a wizard.
