SIP
SIP is an awesome read, very good story line, mixture of humor and drama. It is a welcome change from the spandex books....
When I was a retailer, I used to do the neatest thing with SIP.
Many of my customers had girlfriends/wives who absolutely did not understand the whole comic thing. I would give a free copy of SIP to the GF/Wife to read.
9 out of 10 signed up for a subscription for the book as a result, and my customers thought I was the best guy in the world for getting the girls hooked on comics as well!

I think I have a pretty good deal going. My girlfriend really had no intrest in comic books. She'd just stand there and be bored while I searched the LCS. I had to get her hooked some how some way. I like to collect universes. Isn't it great to have everything there ever was? Valiant was on my to do list. So I found this site and got the checklist for VH1. I sent her to the quarter bin and let her go. 5 minutes later, she had a stack of 100 books. Then, I needed to teach her about condition. The stack was reduced to 60. It's been 3 months, and she has collected about 300. She's thirsty! She won't quit. Isn't it great when your girl walks up to you with a big smile
on her face and double clutching a $30 book for a quarter? I get a kick out of it. What a deal!!!!!!!

Did you say a quarter??? I'll take 2!!!

I've sold my wife on comics, but not on my comics. She's read and enjoyed some Claremont Era X-Men, but isn't an enthusiast. I haven't been able to sell her on Valiant, which is a very male-centered Universe.
My wife avidly reads and collects Aria and Harley Quinn, but one's published irregularly and the other's been cancelled. We're still trying to find her a series or two that she can really dig into. It would be nice to read and collect together, even if we're reading and collecting different issues.

Welll....the 25 and 25 turned out to be 9 and 13, respectively, BUT...they're here, they're REALLY NM, and yes...they have coupons.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:I may just have scored 25 copies of Harb #1, NM with coupon, for $8 each, and 25 X-O Manowar #1, NM, $3 each. Maybe. I'll let you know when they're in my hands, if they're really NM, and if the Harbs have coupons. We'll see.

So, for the very FIRST time, I got a GREAT deal from MHC! Yay!
And no, there are no 9.8's. Sorry.

Nice to know I can still get deals like this right from under everyones' noses....

I had ordered 10 Harb #1 when I saw them. I was only sent 6. I would grade them all 9.0 to 9.2. Nothing perfect but they were only $4.35 each and all had coupons.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Welll....the 25 and 25 turned out to be 9 and 13, respectively, BUT...they're here, they're REALLY NM, and yes...they have coupons.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:I may just have scored 25 copies of Harb #1, NM with coupon, for $8 each, and 25 X-O Manowar #1, NM, $3 each. Two weeks or so ago, they had a 40% off discount sale, AND...a lot of the books were half off already, so I ended up getting the Harb #1's for $8.75 each, and the X-O's for $3.15! Yowza!

Nice to know I can still get deals like this right from under everyones' noses....Silly *SQUEE* screwed up my previous order, though, and shipped me a Shadowman #19 VH1, when I ordered a VH2.....and THEY MADE ME SEND IT BACK TO THEM at a cost TO THEM of $2 for shipping (which they still haven't reimbursed, by the way.) They asked me to ship them back a 10 cent comic...can you believe?
For those needing the Chaos Effect Gold they have one.

Now, of course, they have them listed AGAIN, but at $25 with no discount. I ain't payin' $25.

My copies are all solid 9.4's, though, coupla 9.6's...when did you order yours, and HOW did you get them at $4.35?

My order was processed on April 5th. I think they raised the price the day after I ordered and they were then sold out.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:<raises eyebrow>...did I mention I ordered 100 copies of each?x-omatic wrote: I had ordered 10 Harb #1 when I saw them. Well, that explains it....my order wasn't processed until May 7th or so. Thass a whole month!x-omatic wrote: My order was processed on April 5th. I think they raised the price the day after I ordered and they were then sold out.
I do wonder if Chuck (A) limits orders on current stock, and/or (B) has sources to buy these books from. Mine are AWFUL nice, 'been in bag and board since day 1' copies. Did he buy some more, or did he always have these in stock, and limited them? Who knows. I didn't try to order as a whole different person to find out.

Wow. That's some deal I missed out on.
Do you think such a noticable amount of sales will affect the value of the comic? I could see it's value going up since Mile High (big name distributor) saw the interest in the issue, but it also means a lot of the core Valiant fans won't be demanding the issue as much now that they have cheap mass quantities of it. And if those copies start getting sold on ebay, then demand goes way down. Maybe Overstreet's value will go up and valiantcomics.com's guide will go down, meeting in the middle for once

This is not exactly true. Personally, my demand for NM Harb #1's with coupon for $10 or less is limited only by the amount of cash I have on hand. I will buy any and every copy at or below that limit, and if I end up owning 10,000 copies, so be it. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way, either. There is no 'saturation point' with me as far as I'm concerned...so long as the price is right, I'll keep right on buying them.shaxper wrote:Wow. That's some deal I missed out on.

I'm a right greedy son of a beyotch, too.

But I ain't selling a single copy until they're selling for $100 or more.

and...just back from a local comic store that's moving.
i got the following for a buck a piece:
quasar #50 (with x-o cameo...very cool indeed)
sealed x-o tpb
vintage magnus #2
2 hard corps #5 (comic defense versions)
punx #3
turok the hunted #1-2
2 magnus #57 (1 error, 1 regular)
turok #43
unity 2k #1-2
solar #53, 55, 57
they had an entire long box of unity chapters...basically an entire run in a long box for a buck a pop. i didn't get any of those since no one ever seems to need them.
i had extras of the hard corp #5 comic defense, unity 2k 1-2 and magnus #57 error if anyone's interested. still getting a list together for the dude who was interested in my valiant voices.
this has been quite a productive day.

Not me... but I checked them yesterday and they appeared to be "in stock"Brother J wrote:Which one of you guys got the rest of the Harbinger #1's that Mile High had? :x
I got an e-mail first thing this morning that Mile High is having a 50% off sale, so I tried to snag some Harbinger #1's. I just got an e-mail confirming they're sold out. Well, good deal for whoever got them.
at $12.50 each.
I don't trust Mile High's definition of "NM/M",
and I'm not sure they understand the coupon situation every time,
so I didn't even place an order.

They are gone now. My $15 copies will be much better.

That would be me. My order got processed at 13 copies in NM, and 2 in VF. We'll see if 15 copies total show up. It irks me to pay $12.50 each for them, but I cannot argue with the market. They are selling for $15-$30 each, and I would be a fool to pass them up at $12.50. Sigh.Brother J wrote:Which one of you guys got the rest of the Harbinger #1's that Mile High had? :x

AND...I'll note that, not less than two WEEKS ago, I placed an order for 100 copies at $8.75 each....and got 9. All 9, however, are solid 9.4 copies, with, I'm sure, a 9.6 or two. Gorgeous, gorgeous copies, that I guarantee were one owner books tucked away for a (my, now) rainy day. It surprised me, because I had literally not ordered from MHC since 1991, when they gipped me on 25 copies of X-Men #266 at $3 each, and sent me VG/F copies labeled 'NM/M'.
Where'd they come up with the rest of the copies....? Hmmmm?
Mebbe I shouldna told everyone about the MHC secret.

Despite ZephyrWasHOT!! stealing all the good stuff I did manage to just snag the following comics at a great deal; Rai #1 $2, X-O Manowar #5 & 6 @ $1 each, Solar #2 $1, Shadowman #2 $1. Trading for Harbingers with coupons
