Re: Nintendo Heating Up
ckb - Thanks for the details on the "no price" variants.
Does anyone know which Nintendo issue(s) were the first published? Super Mario Bros #1, Super Mario Bros Special Edition, and/or another issue? Oh I dont include the Nintendo Comics Systems Sneak Preview which is a retailer issue.
I bid for a "no price" Captain N #1 CGC 9.8 recently but that went way above my max. It landed around $550. That's fairly priced due to rarity and compared with what the other CGC 9.8 nintendo issues have been selling for.

Those prices are nuts. Wonder how much this Target pack will go for (not for sale). It's the only one I have found all these years. Nothing special about the actual issues, just a re-pack.

And here are the HC and TPB variants that I am aware of. Some HCs have bookplates signed by different creators. I have only the one signed by Jade:
The Best of the Nintendo Comics System hardcovers (Valiant spine and Mallard Press spine variants)

The Best of the Super Mario Bros hardcovers (Valiant spine and Mallard Press spine variants)

The Best of the Super Mario Bros (Valiant spine variant). Signed by Jade Moede.

Re: Nintendo Heating Up
I'm not sure we have ever seen what that no-price TPB was originally packaged with. I mean I have to assume it was in some sort of a bundle - like the book with the audio cassette tape. I remember Bill (mrwoogieman) first came up with a number of the no-price TPB but I don't know if he ever said where. Or at least I don't remember.

According to GPAnalysis.com, this book sold for $1,900 instead of the asking price of $2,500.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/255004373440
Pretty crazy for a book that was about $10 for 25 years.

Re: Nintendo Heating Up
@Iggy - Great information, thanks for sharing especially with photos! Now I need to get Valiant version of the two "Best of" HC books. And hopefully I can find a signed book.
Prices are crazy with a few selling around/over $2k. I recently bought a couple of slabs above my comfort level - Super Mario #1 CGC 9.0 ($325) and Super Mario Special Edition CBCS 9.0 ($200). I figured one of those was a first release and I want to get them at a reasonable price. I'm only missing the Nintendo Comics System Sneak Preview; ebay: CGC 9.6 selling for 3,200 and a raw (torn with glue - good condition) for $120.

So you bought that 9.0 Super Mario #1 on the Shortboxed app. Nice I was going to pull the trigger on it.jameskh wrote: Thu Jun 17, 2021 5:25 pm @Iggy - Great information, thanks for sharing especially with photos! Re: Nintendo Heating Up
I bought it from a seller from Facebook. We completed the transaction on June 17th. Maybe the seller listed on Shortboxed too. BTW have you purchased from Shortboxed? Is it good for buying/selling comics? I've never used it.

Re: Nintendo Heating Up
Shortboxed is great and the guys running it are fantastic to deal with. I’ve both sold and bought from it. Never had an issue.

Re: Nintendo Heating Up
ComicLink just sold a Super Mario #1 ($1.95 Cover) 9.8 for $3,100 was an auction it ended on Monday. So it easily doubled in price the last 30 days.

Re: Nintendo Heating Up
I’m astonished and kicking myself for not picking up 9.8s some time ago for $200-300 because they increased in price so much.betterthanezra wrote: Wed Jun 30, 2021 3:42 pm ComicLink just sold a Super Mario #1 ($1.95 Cover) 9.8 for $3,100 was an auction it ended on Monday. Re: Nintendo Heating Up
Not a comic, but it shows the popularity of Nintendo and Super Mario:

A copy of 'Super Mario 64' sold for over $1.5 million, the most ever paid for a video game

Someone is just messing with us now.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/115251882204?h ... 7675.l2557
But really the prices for these books is off the charts on eBay in general.

This is nuts. There was a time I couldn’t give them away for $3.
