ValiantFans.com inventories (you remember those) > NEW hobbyDB option

Post by greg »

Remember the old inventory system that I tried to write for Valiant collections?

Here's a reminder: http://valiantfan.com/collect/colview/

hobbyDB has partnered with ValiantFans.com (announced earlier): http://valiantfans.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=53709

There is a process to automatically transfer your collection from the ValiantFans.com inventory system to hobbyDB.

Lots of features are still being developed, but here's an example of how it will look:
https://www.hobbydb.com/marketplaces/ho ... collection

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE YOUR VALIANTFANS.COM INVENTORY LOADED AUTOMATICALLY ON HOBBYDB
JUST SEND ME A NOTE - PRIVATE MESSAGE HERE OR EMAIL greg@valiantfans.com

hobbyDB is free and has the staff to keep updating and adding features that I never had time to even try on ValiantFans.com

Those of you who spent many hours adding your Valiant collections on this site could have all that work transferred automatically for free.

Additionally, hobbyDB allows more details for each item, so you can choose the comic condition, whether it is professionally graded,
details about the grade, when and where you bought it, and lots of other information. If you don't want to do all that extra work,
the collection will be loaded "as is" with all the quantities and the conditions automatically defaulting to "unslabbed 9.4 Near Mint".

I hope those of you who took the time to enter your inventories will consider transferring them to hobbyDB so that they can become active and fun again.

Cool. I entered in a few books directly into the db but I didn’t get an “estimated value” like in your example here.

Values are being imported soon. The only ones with values now were entered by hand as a test. :thumb:

Cool. Will it price according to the Valiant Fans Price Guide? Cgc vs raw? What if your guide doesn’t have record of a sale for pricing purposes? Excited to see you and Hobby DB get this up. Thanks again!

I'll be pre-populating prices from the ValiantFans.com Price Guide, but most raw pricing is pretty old at this point.

There will be opportunities for Valiant fans (besides me) to "curate" sales records from eBay and some auction sites into hobbyDB price guide calculations.
Anyone who is interested in volunteering for the "price squad", just let me know. :thumb:

You never know how far you might go in the "hierarchy" of hobbyDB. :D

This is awesome. I loved this back in the day. However, post-VEI, I can’t imagine assembling this list! Too many books!

Is there anything unique here with this? I loved the old catalog and points system here, but already track my comics with two other sites. This just seems to be another standard catalog system (with some particularly clunky aspects).

hobbyDB would like to cross all genres of collectibles, so the Walking Dead collector, for example, could have one site to track all their Walking Dead collectibles whether they're comics, Funkos, figures, apparel, props, autographs, whatever. They're not only looking at valuation (price guide) but also at creating a "collector-to-collector" marketplace, so that anyone can be a "dealer" of whatever they collect to other collectors on the site when they're ready to sell.

The "showcase" aspect of the site lets anyone "show off" their collection online as well, so if that's something a collector would like to do, it's functional now.

I'm not speaking for the company, but hobbyDB reminds me of IMDB... which eventually became the "everything about movies" website, so you can find out what other movies/shows an actor was in, or you can see what other users think of movies that you like.
I think that hobbyDB wants to be "everything about hobbies" in that way.
Other websites tend to focus on just one aspect (selling) or inventory just one type of collectible (comics).
