An act of desperation!!

Post by DJSpecter »

Okay guys, I've posted at least three requests for anybody who can tell me if they have ever seen my Avatar before I showed up and where. You guys are supposed to be the experts of Valiant! Do I have to offer money on it? Now I know that at least 95 percent of the people here would be able to respond to "where did I get the quote 'cook it till it bleeds'"? even if I misquoted it. Similarly, I would expect that at least 98 percent of people would know where I got "I said something stupid like that once" once again, even if it was a misquote.

Now I can give you hints on the quotes, the hint for the first one is "pizza."
the hint for the second quote is "If I'd gotten some sleep I wouldn't have written__".
The super hint is that both hints appear on the same pages of the same book, if you know one you should be able to track your way to the other.
But here is where I give up and plead. Because there is something that I don't know. WHERE DID I GET THIS SHINY NINJAK POSTER???

Oh. and if nobody knows, who wants it for 50 bucks? (Just kidding.)

Certainly fits the description on all but one account... Mine is a poster, not a card. The dimensions are the same as a regular book, and is probably just about card stock (if not thicker) in terms of the paper. But we are on the right track.

Thank you.

No sticky tape. Thats for sure. Wouldn't let that stuff near something like this. I must have been 13 or younger when I picked it up, which is why I don't remember. I certainly wasn't dealing... at 13 I didn't even know how to light up. I don't have it on hand, but I'm pretty sure it was chromium on one side, flat on the other, meshed into one paper. I'll check tomorrow to make sure.

I have an autographed one. The pic is the same as the Ninjak insentive card (like the Bloodshot & Turok cards). It is a more exclusive insentive from the same time. I think it's reffered to as a Jumbo card. Yes, it is thick, & chromium. Don't know how many were made or distributed.---Steve G

A better/larger scan would help tremendously. :)

The sticky tape came on the chromium promo piece. It enabled the retailer to hang it in a front window or on the door glass (or glass door).

I'm siding with dino, but I think that the window poster was slightly larger than a book...

I'm staring at my chromium card, and I believe it's an incentive from the Valiant Era card set of 1993 (or '94, mine's copyrighted 1993.)

Sooooooo....your poster is LIKELY an instore promo piece highlighting the card set soon to be on sale.

HOWEVER...the card itself says 'here is an advanced [sic] look at Ninjak by Joe Quesadilla and Jimmy Palmisrotting...look for Ninjak #1 coming in November from Valiant.'

Maybe it is what it says it is. I've had mine for years and years and years, bought it from a diehard collector who got EVERYTHING, and then lost interest in it all. Sad story.

Sooooo...your poster COULD be an instore promo piece highlighting the comic soon to be on sale. ;)

And that guy selling one, and charging $3 to ship a single card....sigh. Another ripoff artist. Ah well.

I could easily email anyone a scanned in image of the book, however, it will just show that it is a larger version of that same card especially since resolutions vary by person. I could do another image with a ruler along the side tomorrow if you really want. I guess it could be that retailer promo thing and that I just got it without the tape. I got most of my rare stuff from a similar collector who just had everything and would just give it to me if I asked nicely.

Thanks for the great responce guys, at this rate I'll be a level 3 at no time. Of course, I'll just have to dig up something more rare and use it as my avatar instead, although based on the vibe I'm feeling here- the only things more rare would be something akin to a winning coupon from the seriel number contest. (I do not have one of those.)

I have this Ninjak item. It's about the same size as a comic book. I assumed it was just an oversized promo card of some kind. I found mine in a 50 cent box at last year's Wizard World in Chicago. The seller had it bagged and boarded like a comic.

WOW!!! Can I be you for a day and then steal the book when I go back to being me? What are the chances? WOW! What would you have won, anyhow? (Did they have to give up the coupon when they won? Could be your prise was already claimed.)

-Dave

PS- Thank you Brother J for owning a copy of the poster and knowing where you got it from. I guess it was some sort of more rare dealer item, would like to know a print count on it, but I guess that's a bit too much to ask.

Awww, I'm sorry Steve. I didn't mean to leave you out. Thank you for owning a copy also. And you're also very special to me by way of having a frighteningly similar last name to me.

I cant remember where mine is. Its a hard coprs book and i think it is the 2nd worst prize. I never realized that someone could have claimed it already. could be. is there a list of cliamed prizes somewhere? a valiant voice maybe?

It was a pleasant thought for all of us to finially win the prize after all this time, but.
If you take a look at the page with the winning numbers, on the bottom of the page it tells you some rules of claim. One of which says that if you didn't win you could enter to win the unclaimed prizes. Basically, even if it wasn't claimed it was.
Sorry pigeon fans.

Unless you last name is so ethnically and familially specific (like mine...there's only a couple hundred of us in the world...) then chances are good no one will have a clue who you are. Mine's so unique, if you do a google search, my brother's the first result, and my mom's the third and seventh. My cousin's the second, my other cousin's the 5th and 8th....and my great great great grandpappy's the 10th. ;)

Try it, Greg. ;)

But....is it 'Gerber'? Are you the Gerber baby??? ;)

Oh, and just for fun....google your name and/or phone number and see what pops up....see how 'private' the info REALLY is. ;)

Been there, done that. I love the cyber age, if you are free of spyware, you could find information about almost anyone by knowing any combination (sometimes just one isn't enough, like first name) of the following things:
first name
last name
phone number
general location
specific location
high school
college
initials (most fun)
an email address or log on name (unless they're like me and try to make it a bit different every time)
award they may have won
church or other institution

yeah, isn't it grand, I'm my own PI, which is why I don't tell anyone myyyyy-

Suddenly Dave has been shot dead, Bloodshot enters the room, and slowly looks around. Sensing that he is being watched, but not able to tell who where or how, he begins shooting sparatically. Bloodshot stares straight at the viewing public and lifts his gun. A tinge of red slowly covers Bloodshot's brown eyes. End Book

About the Ninjak jumbo chromium card, I have two of these and although I don't know anything about how limited they are, I can say that I'm pretty sure that I got them from Jon Hartz during the 1993 San Deigo Comic Con.

They are on a heavy cardstock and just slightly bigger than comic book-sized (the width is the same as a Valiant comic, but the height is actually a 1/2 inch taller -- something that's made them a bit of a pain to store.)

I don't think these were any type of dealer incentive, I believe they were just something really cool that Valiant had printed up for the convention season... maybe to promote the upcoming card set's release (I can't remember exactly when the cards came out was it before or after the 1993 SDCC?) I also don't remember them giving out very many of them -- it's not like they were freebies that were piled at the booth -- in fact, until today I didn't even know of a single other person (besides a friend of mine who also attended the show) who had one.
