I'm not crazy about "it's not a full reboot." Why not invest in the narrative? I understand wanting to take creative license, but given how disparate the various Q&W series have been, how about tying it altogether?
Very cautiously optimistic.

Wow, I am actually incredibly excited! Christopher Hastings wrote Gwenpool and has a great sense of humor and a knack for mixing humor with genuine emotion. He's honestly perfect for Q&W. Kudos DMG. You've done something well.kjjohanson wrote:https://www.ign.com/articles/2019/10/01 ... mic-series

EDIT: Okay, I actually read the article now.
This makes me slightly nervous, but it's Q&W. Does their continuity really matter that much?“I think as Quantum & Woody have more and more creators adding to their myth, it's okay for the next guy -- me -- to shave off some of the specifics of certain bits of history, while remaining true to the larger truths of the characters and the world.”
This makes me very happy. It would have been pretty disappointing to not see something done with the rich material leftover from Rahal's run.The last Quantum & Woody series ended with the title characters on the run from the government. This new series is set to pick up there, with the Quantum and Woody’s reputation as superheroes in tatters and the duo struggling to find any sort of adventure or mission that will help them regain their relevance and status as heroes.

I'm cautiously optimistic. God Hates Astronauts was cool; quirky weird in all the best ways. Didn't read Gwenpool, but Hasting saying that he's drawing inspiration form Brooklyn 99 and XFiles- two A+ shows- gets me excited to see what type of plots he churns out.

Re: Quantum & Woody by Hastings & Browne
This is the most positive creative news I’ve seen in a while from DMG. Hopefully this bodes well for other upcoming announcements.
As for “shaving off specific bits of history” let’s hope it’s things like Quantum randomly being shown wearing women’s underwear. To each their own, but that was just a low brow, lazy and generally poor attempt at humor.

It makes me nervous that this Hastings guy wrote the Gwenpool book. That was a pet project of Heather Antos and from what I can tell, she doesn't subscribe to the Dino rule of "let the best story win". If this guy is one of hers, that lowers my expectations.

Valiant re boot I got q&a issue one and loved it. By issue 4 it was a struggle to care and I dropped the title.
Q&A is not my cuppa. But I truly hope this is on its way to be a positive title.

You guys aren't wrong, but seriously, Gwenpool is legitimately well-written, hilarious, adorable, and heartfelt. Don't judge the work of the writer based on the editor alone.nycjadie wrote:

It’s difficult to continue having blind faith and optimism these days as the track record for Antos et al is sub par. Together with Quantum & Woody being some of my least favourite characters I think I’ll sit this one out until I’ve heard reviews (from reliable sources).TheFerg714 wrote:Chiclo wrote:It makes me nervous that this Hastings guy wrote the Gwenpool book. No one's asking you to have blind faith, or even optimism. I'm just saying that it's not fair for you to completely write off someone's work just because they're associated with someone you don't like.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:

Sure, but I haven’t read Gwenpool and Q&W/comedy books don’t really appeal to me. I’d be more inclined to trust your judgement or some of the other guys from this website rather than the Antis stamp of approval so I’ll see how the reviews are but average is no longer enough for me to buy a Valiant book.TheFerg714 wrote:No one's asking you to have blind faith, or even optimism. That's fine. I feel the same way. I just happened to have read Gwenpool and surprisingly loved it. It was Ya Boi Zack (on YouTube) that recommended in the first place, and he notoriously hates Heather Antos.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:Sure, but I haven’t read Gwenpool and Q&W/comedy books don’t really appeal to me. On another note, no one has any idea if this is Antos' baby. So far, she's only edited one book, and that's Livewire. Q&W might not have Antos' name attached to it at all.

Re: Quantum & Woody by Hastings & Browne
I have struggled to care about Quantum & Woody at the best of times with VEI. I’m long past done being interested in “trying out” another Q&W book.
However, I do hope that this book turns out to be good for any of you guys who love the characters!
That statement about not really feeling the need to adhere to past continuity, or being selective about it (as if there is just too much of it to keep track of) is irksome, though. I kind of agree with TheFerg in that, of all the VEI titles, Q&W continuity probably matters the least in order for it to be an entertaining book, but there is far too much of that “don’t worry about continuity” sentiment going around at VEI these days, which ultimately turns me off of a lot of their new books anymore.

As always Grendel articulates a point far better than I can.
