I’m always shocked at the sale prices on eBay for spawn issues 150 and up.

Is there anything special about 240, or is just that it was a small print run?

A lot of the issues past 120 had small print runs, and then after say 235 seemed to have an even smaller print run. A lot of these books can be found in dollar bins. I picked up a run from roughly 110 to 220 last year for less than a $1 each and the store owner acted like I was doing him a favor by buying them at that price point.

I think bargain bin inventory can be very location specific. Across the greater Chicago area (basically the city to as far out as Elgin, IL we will say), I can say that I've never seen a Spawn issue beyond some occasionally random mid-grade stuff from 60 below in a bargain bin. It sounds like you landed a cool deal.

But on that note, there's a lot of shops in that same large footprint that have a lot of random Spawn inventory sitting on their new issue racks - stuff hovering around #250 that never sold.

Didn't McFarlane, wayyyyy back in the day, liken Spawn to Cerebus - a 300 issue long form story? I feel like I remember hints of that back in the Wizard Magazine days.

His goal has always been to be the longest running independent comic series. He'll do that in September. Surprisingly, my Spawn collection is my most valuable collection. The low print runs and variant covers command big bucks.

Thank you for sharing. I'll have to pull my copy out and check on the condition. I might need to send it off. I've had great luck with sending Spawn books to CGC and pulling 9.8s.

That's the one with the first DC appearance of Death, right? Crazy.... Captain Atom is a totally underrated DC character too. I love his first appearance in the first issue of that volume. It's cheap and I buy it when I can. I expect that book to pop for some reason some day too.

Don't know if this is relevant, but I recently sold 4 copies (to 4 different buyers) of the True Believers AF15 reprint for about 15/20 Euros each. For those who don't know, these are the one-dollar books that Marvel routinely printed (prints?) starring first appearances of their most famous characters.
I would guess it has something to do with the Spider-Man animated movie, since 2 of the buyers were after it "for their kids".

There are quite a few variants of Blade Runner #1 by Titan that flew under the radar - several of which are limited to 500 copies only and weren't really included in the regular solicits for the first issue.
