This is great!! Question, have you used the CCS full press, if so, how does that compare to the quick press?

I have used full press on just one batch of 25 books including the stack of X-Force #1s but the results were kind of disappointing. Let's just say I'm still gauging when a book would benefit from a full press vs the quick press

Not sure if you would be interested, but would you trade one of your X-factor # 24 cgc 9.8 WP for a DKR #1 1st print cgc 9.4 1st print?

Thanks,
Dave

After a very lengthy pause in submissions, I decided to rush out 25 moderns along with some emergency reslabbing books at the beginning of June. Managed to get some Valiants in this bunch and all were "natural" 9.8s that didn't need the pressing treatment. It's been awhile since I had all 25 books come back 9.8. :hm:

Rai 0 11/92 Valiant ""Matte"" version.
Morbius: The Living Vampire 12 8/93 Marvel Comics
Nightstalkers 10 8/93 Marvel Comics
Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins 11 8/93 Marvel Comics
Infinite Crisis 3 2/06 D.C. Comics
Barb Wire 1 4/94 Dark Horse Comics
Magdalena v2 #1 8/03 Image/Top Cow
Aliens 3 2/89 Dark Horse Comics Second Printing
Spawn Annual 1 1999 Image Comics
Spawn 77 10/98 Image Comics
Youngblood 2 6/92 Image Comics
Deadpool 1 1/16 Marvel Comics Koblish Variant Cover
Deadpool 25 3/17 Marvel Comics Koblish Variant Cover
Secret Weapons 7 3/94 Valiant
Secret Weapons 2 7/17 Valiant Pre-Order Edition B
Divinity III: Stalinverse 4 3/17 Valiant
X-O Manowar 7 9/17 Valiant
Second Life of Doctor Mirage 18 5/95 Valiant
Shadowman 0 4/94 Valiant (standard cover)
X-O Manowar 18 7/93 Valiant
H.A.R.D. Corps 5 4/93 Valiant
Shadowman 28 9/94 Valiant
Britannia: We Who Are About To Die 4 7/17 Valiant Variant Cover B
Magnus Robot Fighter 38 8/94 Valiant
Turok, Dinosaur Hunter 9 3/94 Valiant

I'm now pressing at home with excellent results so the submissions will continue on a regular basis for a couple of years at least! Hundreds of books to get through and I'll be filling a lot of holes in the Valiant collection. Stay tuned!

I'm back in the CGC saddle once again. Been submitting regular batches since mid January and the first books are finally coming back. What is special is about these submissions and every submission going forward is that I have been doing (and learning) my own pressing at home. I took the plunge since the pandemic started as I had the time and results have been great!

25 books, no pre-screen, all pressed and all 9.8s:

Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance 1 9.8 WHITE
Ghost Rider/Blaze: Spirits of Vengeance 1 9.8 WHITE
Ghost Rider v2 #28 9.8 WHITE
Ghost Rider v2 #28 9.8 WHITE
Ghost Rider v2 #31 9.8 WHITE
Ghost Rider v2 #31 9.8 WHITE
Nightstalkers 1 9.8 WHITE
Nightstalkers 1 9.8 WHITE
Nightstalkers 1 9.8 WHITE
Morbius: The Living Vampire 1 9.8 WHITE
Morbius: The Living Vampire 1 9.8 WHITE
Morbius: The Living Vampire 1 9.8 WHITE
Morbius: The Living Vampire 1 9.8 WHITE
Morbius: The Living Vampire 1 9.8 WHITE
Darkhold: Pages from the Book of Sins 15 9.8 WHITE
Blaze: Legacy of Blood 1 9.8 WHITE
Venom: Death Trap: The Vault 9.8 WHITE
Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History 2 Variant Edition 9.8 WHITE
Deadpool: Last Days of Magic 1 Lim Variant Cover 9.8 WHITE
Klaws of the Panther 2 9.8 WHITE
Klaws of the Panther 3 9.8 WHITE
Klaws of the Panther 4 9.8 WHITE
Thor: God of Thunder 10 9.8 WHITE
Thor: God of Thunder 19.NOW 9.8 WHITE
Annihilation: Conquest - Wraith 4 9.8 WHITE

And yes I'm a Midnight Sons fan.

Cool. Congrats. Can you give a high level on how pressing is done? Not asking for any trade secrets, but I don’t even know what the process is. Machinery? Can you press only the binding if necessary? What if it has a foil cover. Interesting you can do it on your own.

Like the video Greg posted outlines, pretty much anyone can learn to press their own comics but it takes a lot practice to get proficient at it. I've done 200+ books already but I still have a lot to learn.

Really interesting. Thanks for sharing. Very involved process. Is it weird that this actually makes me hesitate to send in my modern 9.4/9.6 books to press and try to get a 9.8? I could totally see mishandling and/or mistakes, especially if I’m just trying to press out a few very minor spine creases.

I’ve only ever sent in a A&A 0 Gold for pressing. That worked and I went from a 9.4 to a 9.8. I have a bunch of rare VEI variants around 9.6s ... super minor spin creases. I was going to send these in for pressing too.

Yes send in the rare VEIs to be pressed and graded. There seems to be so little submitted (and available for sale) of rare VEI’s. The more the merrier

Haha. Yes, totally agree. EBay and various Boards are like a barren wasteland for cool VEI slabs in high grade. We need to organize a VF Board slab sales drive day. Encourage those among us to put up slabs and high grade books they might not be interested in now days. :-)
