1st Spider-Man black costume
Can an argument be made that Marvel Age 19 is the first black costume?

Perhaps but I doubt it would get much traction. You'd have an easier time convincing people that the Earth is flat.

Sure... "first Marvel publication featuring an early black costume design for Spider-Man"StarBrand wrote:Can an argument be made that Marvel Age 19 is the first black costume?
Just leave out a bunch of words and jack up the selling price.
Re: 1st Spider-Man black costume
I think it deserves a premium of some sort.

Re: 1st Spider-Man black costume
I agree, but it's not the first anything in comics. It was an advertisement and discussion in a non-comic publication.
It's the guys who take it too far that need to be reigned in...
"This is the TRUE FIRST APPEARANCE of the black costume, buy it NOW (from me) before it's worth more than ASM #252, #300, and ASM #678 Variant COMBINED!!! Shipping not included."
Comic salesmen are fine, snake oil salesmen (not you, but it is definitely happening in the industry) need to have their nuts bitten by those same snakes.

Re: 1st Spider-Man black costume
Isn’t there a thread or two about this sort of thing already on the board somewhere?

Re: 1st Spider-Man black costume
I'll admit, I was picturing the contents of Marvel Age #12 when you posted about Marvel Age #19.
It was Marvel Age #12 that had the "appearance" that I described: https://www.reddit.com/r/comicbooks/com ... ance_from/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Marvel Age #19 is October 1984, so it came out after Amazing Spider-man #252 (May 1984)... so I don't think there's anything special about Marvel Age #19.

Good catch on that. Marvel Age 19 has the preview of the Star Comics line, and that’s kind of cool.

Re: 1st Spider-Man black costume
Here's some black costume info that goes back to Comics Journal #85 (October 1983) which is earlier than everything else that has been identified.

I still consider Secret Wars 8 as the 1st appearance.

You're correct, except for being wrong by at least six months.
Amazing Spider-man #252 May 1984
Secret Wars #8 December 1984

I know. I like how they set it after Secret Wars and it had just started.greg wrote:greatbrandino11 wrote:I still consider Secret Wars 8 as the 1st appearance.
