WTS - Hardback Bound 90's Valiant books - Input needed.
I've started binding my old 90's Valiant books into hardback, like so...

Since then, a friend who was moving unloaded a long box and a short box of more 90's Valiant stuff on me, so I've not got a bunch of extras now taking up more room. I'm considering binding those that are closest to full sets, and selling them either here on the boards, or thru ebay. My question is: How much interest would there be, and how much would be reasonable to charge. Considering that the books themselves cost around $50 each to have created, plus the cost if there are some issues I have to buy to finish the complete set, then shipping it to the buyer, plus maybe making a little profit myself for my time and effort. I was thinking of starting it around $75 per book, plus the cost of any extra issues I'd have to buy (and maybe depending some on the size of the book/number of issues in it).
About the max issues you can fit in a single book is 30, so anything with more than that ends up split up into multiple books. (For reference with the pics above, my biggest book, #3, has 27 issues in it; and my smallest, #6, has 17 or 18.) The one complete set I have ready to go out of these extras is HARD Corps. It's 35 issues total, (including the extra tie in issues to make the story complete for the Harbinger & Chaos Effect crossovers) so it'll be split into an 18 issue book and a 17 issue book. But something like Archer & Armstrong is 30 issues total so can barely be squeezed into 1 book, but should be worth a little more I think due to the larger amount of issues contained in it.
Just to let you know, the first ones I can do would be HARD Corps, since I have all the needed issues for that. The next closest series I would likely do (after getting the 7-8 issues needed for each to complete the set) would be Archer & Armstrong (1992), Armorines, Ninjak (1994), and The Visitor. Each of those would be doable in 1 book each.
Sadly, some of the bigger series (Magnus, Solar, Turok, X-O) have the most holes in them, and I don't know that I'll be able to (or want to) spend the money/effort to fill those holes in this 2nd collection to bind all of those (unless someone was willing to foot some of the bill upfront to make it worth it for me, but I figure anybody that wanted bound sets that much would just do it themselves). After all, I'm planning on using the bit of profit from these books to put towards binding my own actual books. So, please let me know what you think, how much interest you might have, and what you think of the approximate $75 per book price point.
Thanks for reading!

Re: WTS - Hardback Bound 90's Valiant books - Input needed.
Hello Phoenix:
I have a complete set of books of V1 and Q&W Acclaim that I paid to be bound into HC’s. Your question is a good one and one that I have been asking myself lately. If I should decide to sell these someday, what are they worth?
I spent 2-3 years tracking down the individual issues to get a complete set for binding. I would first estimate how much the individual books are worth. For example, a Harbinger set of issues will be worth more than a HARD Corps set of issues. Also, how hard is it to track down and buy a complete set? I think you would want to add a “convenience” cost because no one has to spend the time and resources to find a complete set.
Finally, what are your costs for binding the issues and don’t forget your shipping costs. These books are not light as you know.
I would also take a look at what VEI is charging for some of these V1 complete HC editions, but always remember your book is much better than that because it has all the cool covers, ads, letters columns, etc. to really have the total 90’s experience.
One last point to consider. I would also list these on eBay to reach a larger audience. Ideally you could find eager buyers on the forum, but there are lots of folks out there that are not here with us on the boards.
Don’t forget PayPal and eBay fees that go along with selling on eBay.
Good luck with your endeavor!
Happy to talk over the phone if you have further questions.
Michael
