Re: DMG Entertainment Acquires Valiant
Mintz says he is not looking to make wholesale changes — “The plan is not to go in there and take apart what’s working”
The writers and artists who will stay to continue working the comics, without skipping a beat, Mintz insists, will now have their eyes on other platforms.
“You can expect more strong storytelling with a defined road to other platforms,”

Completely agree. There are probably good stories still to be told and movies to be made, but Dinesh was Valiant to me. It won't be the same for me.

Wonder if Warren and Fred are on their way out? If they dismantle the whole team, this will make my LCS decision a little easier.

Really really really really really hope they don't mess with creative decisions. So much of Marvel and DC's publishing is obviously driven by what they want to do in other media, and is the primary reason why I gave up on them.

He speficially said this exactly what they're doing. He plans on shifting focus to publishing books designed to be adapted to film. It's Acclaim 2.0. History is repeating itself.kjjohanson wrote:Really really really really really hope they don't mess with creative decisions. I'm afraid that is going to be the direction in which they are going.kjjohanson wrote:Really really really really really hope they don't mess with creative decisions. Although, I really like the approach that DMG has taken towards films (creators first). If they maintain this mentality with the comics, as well as the general vision on Valiant (strong continuity, actions having consequences, characters evolving etc.), I think that the outlook could be good. However, if I hear the word "reboot", I think that my time with Valiant will be done.“You can expect more strong storytelling with a defined road to other platforms,” he (Dan Mintz) says. “I’m also looking forward to bringing the writers close to the filmmaking process, which is something that is also important, and not keeping them siloed into the comic book area.”
This is what happens when you try to work...

So I guess VEI will now have a Pre-DMG (Dinesh era) just like Pre-Unity?
Good luck Dinesh in whatever you pursue next!
Good Luck DMG! Don't *SQUEE* this up!

Re: DMG Entertainment Acquires Valiant
I think what we will see is similar to what has happened with DC and Marvel. The comics will basically be left alone, and output may even be expanded, but once any movies or tv shows start being produced, expect certain changes, launches, etc to coincide. These could be small (see black Nick Fury), they could be very good (see expanded Wonder Woman offerings) or potentially very bad (see Acclaim). Only time will tell.

Re: DMG Entertainment Acquires Valiant
I felt that all the Bloodshot / Shadowman relaunches, the new harbinger/Secret Weapons books, HW 2, were done not just for the comic fans but also to prime the movies.
All the alternative story lines gave more options for script writers, planning the next movie universe.
I realize 5 years is a long time in today's market, with DC/Marvel rebooting regularly, but hopefully the transition will be seamless for the current readers & creators.

Re: DMG Entertainment Acquires Valiant
I was reading the quote as meaning they're going to get the comic writers involved in writing for the movies, rather than messing with what they're doing for the comics. But then what they say and what they do are potentially two different things.SuperMage wrote:He speficially said this exactly what they're doing. Sucks that Dinesh will be departing.

That is such a crummy train of thought. These guys don't care about comic books, they care about Hollywood profits, video games and underoos.

According to Valiant representatives, Chairman Peter Cuneo, CEO/CCO Dinesh Shamdasani, and CCO Gavin Cuneo are resigning as part of the terms of the DMG deal. Dinesh and Gavin, however, will continue to work with Valiant as consultants.

While not ideal, it's a business. And they're running it like a business. That's how things are done these days. They see an opportunity, and they're taking it.

Fred and Warren are staying and keeping the ship headed in the right direction.
Thank God!
