Re: what is this?
wonder if it's Dyna-mite or IDW. Dyna-mite would make sense since they've fought to buy Valiant in the past, and Dinesh has teased Unity.

Re: what is this?
Very interesting. I was actually wondering if it's one of the media conglomerates ie Sony. If one of your verticals is media, you're all looking at the Disney giant and trying to find ways (and properties!) to keep yourself in the game. Valiant has a slew of untapped (outside of comics books and video games) properties that would make them an attractive purchase. If it's one of the media companies it would also explain why Ninjak vs. the Valiant Universe has more or less vanished from all discussion - that's the type of thing that Peter Cuneo would know to put the breaks on if deals with a media giant were serious.
Very interesting indeed!

Exactly my thought. If this is legit, it's not another comic company. It would be a media corp looking to exploit the properties.murrayroach wrote:Very interesting. I wonder what it would be like to be a lonely, muck-encrusted monster? Probably be an improvement.

Re: what is this?
This does NOT mean Valiant is “done.”
This only means that they are “sold.”
This happens all the time. Lucasfilm. Marvel. Valiant.

Re: what is this?
DirtBagSailor - dead on. Cuneo didn't invest in Valiant bc he loves comics (although I like to think he enjoys them!) he invested to make money. If you look at the multiple that Disney paid for Marvel - any businessman would be crazy to turn something like that down. Good for all the leadership at Valiant - I like to see people do well and if it this is a big media buyout you can bet they've all done very well.
Who survives post buy-out -- that'll be a different story. I've been part of two M&A's in my career - things change, but things stay the same to a certain degree as well. The Disney model is the envy of media space right now.

Re: what is this?
Not surprised if this is true. It has happened with Voyager Communications for 65mil sold to Acclaim before... Why not at VEI.

Re: what is this?
A very big part of me hopes it is Walt Disney. They're 3 for 3 (Pixar, Marvel, Lucas) in just a few short years. And Disney can run a comic book division as a loss-leader for centuries.

Re: what is this?
I am not happy at all. It was always the case that Cuneo & Co would sell - they are a venture capitalist company that invests in entertainment startups - a brief look at their info shows the boards they've sat on and later sold. The worry is that whomever buys will push out the team that made Valiant into the company that it is. That's fairly standard. Without the guiding hand of Dinesh, who's to keep the quality up? Will they pump out more books? Alter the quality of writing? Will it be turned into yet another super hero franchise with Mary Janes? I will remain optimistic, but if you take away Dinesh, I don't have high hopes.

The fact that Cuneo is in it for the money should NOT be a source of comfort
My fear and 2 cents take (pending further info) Cuneo didn't really believe in the product. He believed in Dinesh's vision to a point (the long and steady approach with an emphasis on quality) but eventually lost faith in big money over the rainbow and now they are cashing out.
The fact that Dinesh is indicating disappointment should worry us all who cared about the world that was being carefully cultivated
Maybe it will all work out for the better ... but feels like a sad day

DMG just bought the parts they didn't already own!
And, very sadly, Dinesh is out.

Re: what is this?
Mintz says he is not looking to make wholesale changes — “The plan is not to go in there and take apart what’s working,” he says — but some reverberations are already occurring. Shamdasani, who acted as CEO, is transitioning out of the company.

Re: what is this?
Worst thread title ever for such a big topic. It needs to be changed to reflect what the thread is about.
I hope this is not a repeat of Acclaim.
I hope since they are throwing cash around they outright purchase the Gold Key 3 and reincorporate them back into the VU.
Time to wait and see.

Re: what is this?
That's what I'm feeling. Having invested the last year heavily in the enjoyment and anticipation of everything that is VEI, I came to realize it was Dino that I was investing in. I'll cross my fingers for something good, but I'm not excited by this at all.lorddunlow wrote:No Dino is no good. This sucks.
Although, I like Mintz's one quote... “You can expect more strong storytelling with a defined road to other platforms,” he says. “I’m also looking forward to bringing the writers close to the filmmaking process, which is something that is also important, and not keeping them siloed into the comic book area.”
My biggest complaint with DC is that they've so far avoided approaching the talent that made the stories/characters popular to begin with...making their films a hodge podge of greatest hits of comic panels rather than stories. But I'm also reading comic books because films just don't interest me as much.
