What is the status of Harbinger Renegade? Is the story over, on hiatus until Harbingers Wars 2, or cancelled?
I don't see it solicited any time soon.

Re: Harbinger
I think we've seen all we're gonna see of Harbinger Renegade before Harbinger Wars II kicks off (Starts in May, doesn't it?). I'm curious as to whether or not there will be an additional Harbinger title (Renegade or otherwise) alongside the event mini-series...SpideyAZ wrote:What is the status of Harbinger Renegade? Ive wondered this myself. I don't love Renegade, but it definitely has a unique voice, and I'd love to see HW2 from the perspective of Roberts and the renegades.grendeljd wrote:I'm curious as to whether or not there will be an additional Harbinger title (Renegade or otherwise) alongside the event mini-series...

Rafer is a talented writer and artist, but also 100% the wrong “fit” for the Valiant Universe.
I “get” that risks must be attempted for any publisher to grow and succeed; however, just because you take a risk does not mean it was the right risk to take. Doubling down on such things typically leads only to more of the same result.
Les Claypool of Primus once auditioned to be the bassist for Metallica. Les is unquestionably talented enough for the job, but man, it would have been a very different result from what fans know today.

This is a very wise statement. I didn't like A&A, not because it was BAD, but because I thought it was not a great fit for the characters or tone that had been previously established. I could have appreciated A&A more if it wasn't actually about Archer and Armstrong, but new characters.DirtbagSailor wrote:Rafer is a talented writer and artist, but also 100% the wrong “fit” for the Valiant Universe.

Re: Harbinger
Both of your sentiments echo my thoughts as well, and thats the primary reason why I'd rather not see Rafer writing any more Harbinger. I also think he is a capable writer, I have enjoyed a couple of his stories between the A+A & Harbinger Renegade books. But I don't think he has written any Harbinger characters that we are familiar with in a manner that is really true to said characters, and the Renegade book has felt largely forced & a bit clumsy in places.Benny_Decker wrote:This is a very wise statement. That's the term I've been looking for! I kept wanting to say disjointed, but that's not really it.grendeljd wrote: clumsy in places.
I've read his run in chunks, and it's not bad but I always came away like I was missing a page or panel or read and issue out of order (cough 6 cough). But you know, this is how I feel when I read Grant Morrison at times so maybe .... Rafer is a genius

Re: Harbinger
Harbinger Renegade started out as a 'let's get the band back together' mini-series that inserted future and past plot points. 0 and 6 were good setup issues for HW2 and 5 as an epilogue for Generation Zero. The whole thing was disjointed and, otherwise, 'meh'.
Thanks for the info.

Harbinger
They should have expanded issue 5 to three more issues and let Fred Van Lente write it as the last arc of Generation Zero..Closing the series properly with 12 issues..SpideyAZ wrote:Harbinger Renegade started out as a 'let's get the band back together' mini-series that inserted future and past plot points. 0 and 6 were good setup issues for HW2 and 5 as an epilogue for Generation Zero. Publish 0 and 6 as a 48 page Harbinger Renegade special..
Finally Harbinger Renegade as a 5 issue miniseries..
Also should have let someone else,Jeff Lemire,Matt Kindt,Eliot Rahal i mean anyone other than Rafaer write it..Again i enjoy his independent work..But his work in VEI is crap...
Of course Dysart would be the first choice.. But then that selfish *SQUEE* wants to save the world and stuff..What about us Valiant fanboys, though??
We are human too...I know we are not starving or dying in wars..But we do die a little bit inside due to Rafaer writing Harbinger..

Before A+A and Harbinger Renegade, I'd have given Rafer a Quantum and Woody mini.

Re: Harbinger
I think at this point, the best route would be to just not continue the series. They don't even have to worry about making an announcement about cancelling the book, which would acknowledge the failed nature of the experiment. The title was only selling 5000 copies per issue, and any lower than that usually means cancellation (given recent history).
Next best option would be to switch out most of the creative team (colors and letters can stay). If Dysart or Heisserer started writing, plus a different artist (Clayton Hentry maybe), and they gave it big promotion, I bet sales would blow up.

I don't think Clayton Henry is exclusive to Valiant any more. The sad thing is Dysart could have and would have done the series but his pitch was rejected in favor of Roberts.Manaf82 wrote:They should have expanded issue 5 to three more issues and let Fred Van Lente write it as the last arc of Generation Zero..Closing the series properly with 12 issues..SpideyAZ wrote:Harbinger Renegade started out as a 'let's get the band back together' mini-series that inserted future and past plot points. 0 and 6 were good setup issues for HW2 and 5 as an epilogue for Generation Zero. Quoting Dinesh from an interview he did on Valiant Central- Dysart's pitch was "bad" and "fans wouldn't like it".
Well now that Roberts has had his shot I think the consensus is it was "bad" and "fans didn't like it".
The worst part is we will now never get the story of Pete's redemption as Dysart had intended it.
This more than anything is a sore spot with me and really shook my faith in Valiant. It wasn't just bad, it damaged the characters, the brand and the fan base.

I talked with Dysart at Baltimore Comic Con... I am pretty convinced he is finishing it. He never came out and directly said it... But the hints and facial expressions and his questions led me to believe so...hawkeyeps wrote:The sad thing is Dysart could have and would have done the series but his pitch was rejected in favor of Roberts.Manaf82 wrote:They should have expanded issue 5 to three more issues and let Fred Van Lente write it as the last arc of Generation Zero..Closing the series properly with 12 issues..SpideyAZ wrote:Harbinger Renegade started out as a 'let's get the band back together' mini-series that inserted future and past plot points. 0 and 6 were good setup issues for HW2 and 5 as an epilogue for Generation Zero.
