Order of new Valiant storing
As an adjunct to the "order of new Valiant reading" thread...
I'm spending the long weekend getting my VEI collection organized in long boxes (finally!). And it's really starting to sink in just how difficult it is to keep things ordered properly, what with so many re-numbered arcs, one shots, events and their tie-ins.
I would imagine that for new readers this could be a little daunting, trying to read everything in sequence. Greg's reading timeline is a terrific tool in this regard. I didn't need to reference it since I was able to do so from memory.
But I think VEI should consider putting a similar guide up on their site to assist new readers, reviewers, etc.

Re: Order of new Valiant storing
Great question!
Personally, I store mine in a sort of pseudo-chronological order. Basically, it's chronological order of ongoings. It's so difficult to decide where to put all the one-shots and mini-series that I just connected (most of) them to their respective ongoings. I prefer the annuals, #0's, and specials to be stored and read in order of release, amongst the numbered issues. So unless I'm forgetting something (which I probably am), here's what my short boxes look like:
-X-O Manowar by Venditti + BoD/4001 tie-ins
-Harbinger by Dysart + Omegas + BoD tie-in
-Bloodshot (and HARD Corps)
-Archer & Armstrong by Van Lente + The 1% + Divnity tie-in + Immortal Bros. 1
-Shadowman + End Times + Punk Mambo 0 + 4001/Divinity tie-in
-Quantum & Woody + Delinquents + Valiant-Sized Special + Must Die!
-Eternal Warrior by Pak + Days of Steel
-Unity
-Rai + 4001 + History of...
-Dr. Mirage + Second Lives
-Ivar, Timewalker (debating putting this after A&A)
-Imperium (debating putting this after Harbinger)
-Divinity + II + III + #0
-Ninjak by Kindt + Rapture (just think it fits best here) + BoD tie-in
-Bloodshot Reborn + Bloodshot USA + Bloodshot's Day Off + BoD/4001/Divinity tie-ins
-Wrath of the Eternal Warrior + Awakening 1
-A+A
-#0 + Faith mini + Faith maxi + Future Force
-Gen. Zero
-Brittania + We Who Are...
-Harbinger Renegade
-Savage
-X-O Manowar by Kindt
-Secret Weapons
-War Mother 4001 one-shot + mini
-Bloodshot Salvation (debating putting this after Reborn)
-Eternity (might put this after Divinity)
-Ninja-K
-The Valiant + Book of Death (I have the rest in deluxe ed.)
-Dead Drop
Hope that helps a little.

Re: Order of new Valiant storing
I basically keep my collection in alphabetical order by character/team/event, and within that character/team in chronological order.
So Doctor Mirage is not ordered by "Death-Defying" but rather by "Doctor." Eternity will be files directly after Divinity. The 0 issues get filed based on where they came out. Bloodshot is filed by first series (both solo and with HARDCorps), then Reborn, then Salvation. The various tie-ins to events get filed with the event, especially when it's not clear that the book will be set as part of continuity. (So Book of Death and 4001 one shots get filed with the event, but the Armor Hunters minis get filed with Harbinger and Bloodshot.) All of the FCBD, previews, etc. are filed at the very beginning, before A&A.

This reminds me of the guy in High Fidelity ordering his record collection.
I'm strictly alphabetical, but a great reading map of what comes first would be a great one-sheeter.

I store mine in the reading order posted in the other thread.

That's pretty much exactly as I do, except zeroes come first or I wouldn't know where to find them. I also will put "related" single books like Commander Trill with them, up front.kjjohanson wrote:I basically keep my collection in alphabetical order by character/team/event, and within that character/team in chronological order.

In addition to a section for miscellaneous items like previews, etc I have a section for Golds and other higher value books like the QR variants and signed copies.
The biggest conundrum I had was Rapture. On its surface it's a Ninjak title, but it's also a key arc for Shadowman. I went with Ninjak.

Re: Order of new Valiant storing
I may change things to do that. Mostly the 0s are where they are so if I'm doing a re-read, they're in order and I don't have to go back and grab them. But these days when I'm re-reading I'm mostly doing it digitally or with trades.jmatt wrote:That's pretty much exactly as I do, except zeroes come first or I wouldn't know where to find them. Re: Order of new Valiant storing
I like it, but perhaps it should just be the Order of New Valiant. We can all get black hooded robes and hold candlelight ceremonies where we consecrate the storing of the Sealed Tomes of Lore. Brother Chiclo! Bring forth the Long Box of Preservation and let us fill it with the riches of Valiant!Chiclo wrote:The title of this thread made me think it was about a secret society - the Order of New Valiant Storing!

And we should all have gold masks ala the 1%, only maybe of our favourite characters instead of bulls & bears.
