Appearances of Turok in Valiant Comics

Post by MKBeidler »

Greetings, Valiant fans!

I've been a fan of Turok: Son of Stone since I was a kid because it thrust Native Americans into honorable, protagonist roles in spite of the Native American stereotypes the series propagated (which puts me, as a Cherokee Nation citizen, into somewhat of a semi-humorous pickle). Maybe it was just the dinosaurs. I dunno.

Anyhoo, I'm close to completing my Turok collection, and I've been discovering the greater Valiant universe in the process. Is there anyone on this message board who can definitively list all of Turok's appearances in non-Turok Valiant titles, e.g., X-O Manowar and Magnus, Robot Fighter? Just when I think the interwebs has a definitive list (such as http://valiant.wikia.com/wiki/Category: ... ppearances), I discover by happenstance that the list is incomplete.

Anyone?

Best,
Mike

Turok was also in Archer and Armstrong, the Unity issues.

I'm not sure if this is absolutely complete, but it's all of the ones that I know of.
  • Archer & Armstrong #2
  • Chaos Effect Alpha
  • Deathmate Black
  • Geomancer #5-7
  • HARD Corps #9-10
  • Magnus, Robot Fighter #12
  • Secret Weapons #7
  • Shadowman #15
  • X-O Manowar #14-15, #27-30, #43, #48
Didn't know about Rai #0 from the wiki list.

I never had a copy of Magnus #12 when I was a kid, so I made sure I had a few Archer & Armstrong #2, the 2nd appearance. :)

He is in Rai #0 briefly, waiting for Aric (X-O) to finish putting on "native paints/gear" so they can go hunt dinosaurs. It's like a one-panel preview of X-O #14.

Hey, that's a pretty nice second post there!

To the OP, you have to consider VH2, Acclaim as well. Although I can't think of a Turok crossover there! There were a few books, one shots, magazines, some video game related. There is at least one variant of a book that is super rare, a giveaway from Gamestop I believe.

Turok/Shadowman was a single book "crossover"

Turok Evolution variant from EB Games (video game store)

Even rarer, the Turok: Tales of the Lost Land and Turok: The Empty Souls variants with no price and no barcode on the cover.

There are also four Turok paperback novels for teens (young adults) from Acclaim. No art other than the covers, but definitely part of a Valiant/Acclaim collection of Turok.

I was going to say something about the unpublished Turok/Shaman's Tears crossover, but that was pre-Acclaim, wasn't it?

The 2008(?) Turok animated move was pretty good. I bought the card set for that movie.

Thanks for the confirmation that Turok is in Rai #0!

Mike

Greg,

Yes, I have all four of these books, one of which I just obtained from Amazon.ca in a roundabout way. Amazon Canada, from which I've purchased a number of things, wouldn't allow me to ship the book to a U.S. address, so I had to enlist a Canadian friend to be my go-between. $20 in Canada vs. upwards of $300 in the U.S. made the circuitous route worth it.

Best,
Mike
