I think that the last sale of this was $600...what is the name of that site...well whatever...I will find that link...yeah huge profit on this one...I was wondering what would be the best(cheapest) way to read the miracle man books...My interest was picqued on here a couple of months ago when we were talking about mcfarlane losing with suit...anyway...TBP? or just get the comics? arent the comics reprints anyway?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:oh my god.
And you know the sad thing? This guy prolly bought it for $100 in the late 80's from John himself.
Wow.

I saw the site you mentioned below, a while back, & jumped on it to buy some of the pages. John wrote back & said that the site is embarrasingly out of date & that all the pages had been sold.DawgPhan wrote:I think that the last sale of this was $600...what is the name of that site...well whatever...I will find that link...yeah huge profit on this one...I was wondering what would be the best(cheapest) way to read the miracle man books...My interest was picqued on here a couple of months ago when we were talking about mcfarlane losing with suit...anyway...TBP? or just get the comics? arent the comics reprints anyway?ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:oh my god.

When it comes to reading MM, your going to have to piece your collection together the hard way. Some of the TBPs are just as rare, if not more, than the actual comics. I did come across a site a few months back that had the entire collection in Jpegs. I think I found it on Google.
The comics are techniquely reprints from Warrior Magazine that came out in the 80's, but are considered first run as a standalone comic. Does;nt make much sense.
I would'nt be supprised if this cover goes for over $6,000. This issue is considered by many to have changed the face of Modern comics.

Get the originals, it's more fun that way.DawgPhan wrote:My interest was picqued on here a couple of months ago when we were talking about mcfarlane losing with suit...anyway...TBP? or just get the comics? arent the comics reprints anyway?
#1-partway through #6 are reprints of the Quality Magazine run of Warrior #1-#22, from 1982-1983.
The last half of #6, #7, and #9-#24 are all original, baby. #8 is a filler reprint because of the flood of '86 (see below.) #15 is the key, followed, in order, by #24, #23, #16, #14, #9, #12-#13, #17-#21, then the rest. #1-8 are fairly easy to find, and shouldn't be sold for more than $2 each.
#11-#16, by the way, contain some of the most beautiful work John Totleben has EVER done. Along with Steve Bissette, they created magic on Swamp Thing in the mid 80's. Those two are the best (and only true) horror artists of the last 20 years. Beautiful, beautiful work.
The reason the books are so hard to find is thus: in 1986, Eclipse, which was located in Guerneville, CA, had a massive flood which ruined all their back issues (including #1-#4.) Then, in 1993, it happened AGAIN, and this time, since the rest up to #24 were already published, you know the story....almost all of them, destroyed. That is why they're so flippin' hard to find.

yeah I was kinda upset for not picking this up
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 74661&rd=1
I figure that it would have been a good way to go ahead and get a good jump on the run...There are only 24 issues, right? then the minis and the TPB...There is a complete set on set right now that has the 15 cgc 9.6...I think that the bidding is pretty much for the 15 and the rest are coming free though...I need to go and find miraclemancomics.com....thanks for the info though...i think that I am going to try and put that set together...

No worries, guys, 1-11 and 16-18 (plus the extras) isn't THAT great a deal at $35+S&H. Hell, if I knew where my Miracleman box was, I'd send you out a set of at least 1-10 for free. I bought a boatload of them in the mid 90's for 20 cents each. They're NOT rare, and NOT that valuable.
And yes....24 issues published....the 25th is done, as is 8 pages of the 26th, but never published. Ohhhhh I can't wait...

Alright this ended at over $12k!!
That is crazy. I never thought that it would go like that..Of course I know very little about the original art market, but 12k seemed a little high. Oh well I hope that guy likes it..Right piece at the right time for the seller considering that he probably paid $600 for it...

As with Dawg, I have no idea what goes on in the original art market. But sheesh, for 12,000 bucks I'd expect a monet or something else with a bit more of international and intergenerational acclaim (sorry, I know thats a near curse word round here): something that would really last. But what do I know of collectors, I guess it must really be worth it to that guy. Wow.

Well it was appearently worth that much to at least 2 collectors...the underbidder has bought a few pieces of MM art pages in the last few months. 12K is a lot of money to me right now. To each his own though. I figure that this will not be flipped for a while. Hell if a new MM book comes out and new people start reading the series this could be the key piece of art for the series...of course that is a lot of "ifs"

I watched this auction for a while too. I was amazed at the final price, but if you love MM, this is THE piece to own.
The series is definately worth tracking down. Like someone said 1-10 are real easy to find. I think Alan Moore wrote 1-16 then passed off to Neil Gaiman. I love both writers work. Moore's Watchmen and LXG and Gaiman's Sandman among other things. I'd been waiting to complete my colection to read all the way through.
The Miracleman companion - Kimota also helps explain some of the details. I hope now that McFarlane got his *SQUEE* whooped in court Gaiman can print #25 and reprint everything else. I would really love for him to complete the Golden Age arc he started. I'm not gonna get my hopes up too much though.

i may try to pick some up at in charlotte at herocon in june.
i've been told this should be required reading along with watchmen, dark knight returns and understanding comics by scott mccloud

Hey, don't feel bad...I've had a set of 1-14 and 16-24 for YEARS...YEARS and YEARS....I REFUSED to pay the going rate....
Well...last month, I FINALLY won a lot for a VERY nice price, and read 1-15 this past week...11-15 for the very first time.
And it was....in....credible. The very best that Alan Moore's ever written, and that's saying a HELL of a lot. Just amazing.
God, I REALLY hope the legal crap gets sorted out soon....the world has gone too long without MM.
Listen, you all...if you want complexity, if you want depth, if you want a boatload of blood and guts...and have it be for a REASON....MM is the place to be. Layers upon layers upon layers, the very best ever done, better than Watchmen, better than Dark Knight...
I just don't understand how it's been the industry's best kept secret for almost 20 years. I just don't get that....
