Shadowman reboot: writer poll

More important than any individual artist might be the writer who will be handed creative control of the all-important Deadsider. Share your pick to lead the title through the first years of the new title.

Re: Shadowman reboot: writer poll
I don't really think they need a writer. They should just conjure the demon Forneus and channel the stories from his ancient teachings.
Re: Shadowman reboot: writer poll
Robert Venditti
The book needs someone who can develop the character, develop the supporting cast, fix the problems that Milligan created, and delve into some stories that don't center around Master Darque. Jordan left lots of threads open that a good writer can build on. Milligan left a mess. I hope that Rapture doesn't swerve even further off course.

I wouldn't be mad about Venditti getting it. But I think Ray Fawkes could do some really cool things with it.

Re: Shadowman reboot: writer poll
Ennis would be interesting. But we'll never see it.
Re: Shadowman reboot: writer poll
Ennis wrote Shadowman for Acclaim, and VEI did release a TPB that collected those issues. I thought it was good, but definitely a very different approach to the character.

Kinda has been handed the reins to set up Jacks return. It wouldn't surprise me in the least that he continues.

Not sure if he's the right guy though. Rapture is off to a great start and really enjoyable but for a Shadowman series or any series set in the Deadside I'd prefer a darker atmosphere. The Deadside should scare the *SQUEE* out of you. The Rapture feels more like Lara Croft or Indiana Jones traveling the Deadside.

Shadowman reboot: writer poll
I don't think it's going to be Matt Kindt. He writes the best espionage thrillers and cosmic SF, but management wouldn't give him another cornerstone title so soon. Call it a hunch, but I have a feeling the new writer will have experienced the cosmopolitan southern life (or at least have done a ton of research), and may have a history of writing magic & mysticism for other comic titles. Perhaps Kindt, as the VEI writer of Ninjak, is only providing the set-up for whoever takes over the new series.

Re: Shadowman reboot: writer poll
I can't believe I didn't mention him the first time around. He would be great on Shadowman having written a lot of supernatural based books in the past (Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Frankenstein and SHADE). And he did hint a while back he was working in another character who "liked the dark." He wrote like the first 2-3 years of his Bloodshot run before it ever started, so maybe he has 2-3 years of Shadowman scripts in the can already?Manaf82 wrote:Jeff Lemire

Lemire would be a great choice too. Probably the next best choice if it's not going to be Kindt.BugsySig wrote:I can't believe I didn't mention him the first time around. Shadowman reboot: writer poll
Jeff Lemire would be a fine choice. And I love all of the D.C. new 52 books he wrote too. But I'm hoping VEI goes for somebody who might understand New Orleans/jazz/voodoo better (Jeff is Canadian). Everything I've read seems well-researched. But he does write for a lot of titles now, and I so want authenticity in this book. Very importantly: this title may be _the_ opportunity to add a person of color to the Valiant stable of writers.

Re: Shadowman reboot: writer poll
By the time the title is re-launched then maybe enough time will have passed for me to try Shadowman again. I'd like to see someone different on the title, but whoever it is I'd like to see it very dark, Vertigo like and absolutely nothing like the incarnation of the original VEI launch.

That's what I'm looking for as well, except that I am perfectly happy with the tone and story shown in Shadowman 0 and 10.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:By the time the title is re-launched then maybe enough time will have passed for me to try Shadowman again. Yes! I would like more of #0 and #10. Art and story wise.

Yeah, #0 and #10 were stand out issues and were some of the strongest single issues VEI have put out. Stark contrast with the rest of the issues.kinggirlfriend wrote:possumgrease wrote:That's what I'm looking for as well, except that I am perfectly happy with the tone and story shown in Shadowman 0 and 10.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:By the time the title is re-launched then maybe enough time will have passed for me to try Shadowman again. My money is on Lemire. I believe there's been rumors about Lemire wanting to write Shadowman going back like a year or two. He's done a good job with Bloodshot, so I'd be cool if he gets the job. Plus Smallwood on art...

Re: Shadowman reboot: writer poll
Being asked if he was going to do interiors for Valiant (Shadowman), too, Smallwood said "Nothing in the works. Still exclusive with Marvel." That was right after the Summit.Thegreatmagnet wrote:My money is on Lemire. I believe there's been rumors about Lemire wanting to write Shadowman going back like a year or two.
