The Major Events of the Valiant Universe
So I was recently re-reading Kurt Busiek's Marvels, which (if you don't know) basically tells the story of a photo-journalist who gets to witness some of the seminal events of the Marvel Universe (i.e. the dawning of super-heroes with the Human Torch/Namor/Captain America, the Avengers, anti-mutant hysteria and the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the arrival of Galactus, etc.).
That got me thinking... what are the seminal events that will make up the history of the Valiant Universe? Not EVENTS like Book of Death or 4001 AD, but occurrences that occupants of the world would look back on as events that shaped the world.
My thoughts on what we know of so far:
- The terrorist attack in Las Vegas (Harbinger Wars)
- Aric landing in Romania and almost sparking WW3 (X-O/Unity)
- The hacking of PRS and, subsequently, the Harbinger Foundation revealing psiots to the world at large (Harbinger)
- The arrival of the Armor Hunters, the destruction of Mexico City, Unity revealed to the public as a global defense team (X-O/Armor Hunters)
- Divinity returns to Earth, David Camp founds a new religion (Divinity)
- Toyo Harada conquering Somalia and founding his imperium (Harbinger Omegas)
- Entire towns slaughtered as Master Darque attempts to usurp the powers of the Geomancer (Book of Death)
- The Vine fleet arriving, followed by the arrival of the Torment (X-O)
- The Bloodshot nanovirus set loose in New York (Bloodshot USA)
- Generation Zero taking control of Rook, MI, and the subsequent H.A.R.D Corps assault and massacre (Generation Zero/Harbinger Renegade)
- The psiot “explosion” in Tonawanda, NY, resulting in the permanent paralysis of hundreds and a two mile radius quarantine zone (Harbinger Wars 2)
- As a result of Operation Chimney Sweep (joint H.A.R.D. Corps/US Govt action against rogue psiots), Livewire causes a nationwide blackout. (Harbinger Wars 2)
What say you?

Re: The Major Events of the Valiant Universe
you can add the "Operation deadside" Yes, i know it was classified but maybe to some journalist it wasnt
You have to add the Book of Death plotlines, i mean...there was a massacre, Darque "manipulating" the geomancer from the present kill a whole bunch of people, that cannot go unnoticed.

I wonder if the Bloodshot nanovirus in New York will be a major event, or if everyone being cured will make the whole thing being remembered like a "bad flu season".

I think of that as a minor event that fed off of Aric's return to earth with the Visigoths.Sunlight on Snow wrote:The Visigoths find new home in Nebraska.

Aric did not return with the Visigoths in tow. Those are two separate events.jxm640 wrote:I think of that as a minor event that fed off of Aric's return to earth with the Visigoths.Sunlight on Snow wrote:The Visigoths find new home in Nebraska.
The US granting the Visigoth people a new home is huge especially if you keep in mind what price Aric had to pay for it. This is bigger than Divinity's return who's locked away immediately (supposedly but he's out of sight anyway). The Visigoth's are there and Aric has to work for MERA/GATE to keep them there in peace.

Re: The Major Events of the Valiant Universe
But, iirc, the military came in and evacuated the area. We know that Harada was able to keep the truth about Las Vegas under wraps as a terrorist attack. How many of these news-worthy, history making events actually aren't because they were covered up?bygranddesign wrote:the whole valiant universe verse the Immortal Enemy had to be major headlines for awhile

Not a single mention of Aric's initial crash-landing in Rome?

Re: The Major Events of the Valiant Universe
Aric "invades" Earth twice. First time he just managed to escape with Shanhara, who takes him back to Rome. Then he does a bunch of stuff with the Vine and Ninjak, leaves for the Vine planet, saves the New Visigoths, and then comes back to try to take Romania.Shadowman99 wrote:Watchtower wrote:Not a single mention of Aric's initial crash-landing in Rome?

Re: The Major Events of the Valiant Universe
Yep, I was referring to the return with the Visigoths from Loam. My personal take on that is his initial crash landing into the Coliseum was one of those military/gov't cover-ups, but there certainly were enough bystanders around to make it into a conspiracy theory. We could probably say the same thing of Aric and Gafti fighting off the initial Vine invasion. Brings up a good question... does the world at large know about the wreckage of the Vine fleet creating a ring around Earth?Watchtower wrote:Aric "invades" Earth twice. But the whole Romania thing almost lead to the Russians nuking Romania. That's a pretty big f'ing deal, and I think the greater of the two events.

From vague memory I recall Harada mentioning the wreckage in an ish of Harbinger, and I think PRS might know about it too... Delayed response on this one... IIRC, the Chinese were in space trying to get at the wreckage when Malgam first arrived, and I think the implication was that the Russians got their hands on plenty of Vine Tech as well. Of course, the U.S.A. being able to send X-O up at moments notice probably went a long way to dissuade other nations from being overly ambitious.Shadowman99 wrote:From vague memory I recall Harada mentioning the wreckage in an ish of Harbinger, and I think PRS might know about it too... Three that stick out to me in no particular order.
- Aric's return to Earth. (I lump everything together concerning Aric)
- Divinity
- PRS hack revealing psiots
H.M.- Original Harbinger Wars
- Aric's return to Earth. (I lump everything together concerning Aric)

If I remember correctly, the Russians did get their hands on Vine tech. In Aric's second return to earth, didn't they (Russians) attack Aric with their version of the Vine mech warrior type things? I do remember they had them in production, but I can't remember if they attacked him (I believe they did though).Keith wrote:Delayed response on this one...
