I have been to the bathroom on the campus of M.I.T., if that counts.

This is unbelievable, and seemingly quite simple, yet so accurate.

Wonder if a side effect of your Shadowman #13 1:50 revolves around hype? last Shadowman 1:50? Could there be some other reason why this comic is acting like it is?

The formula is based on fundamentals... print runs and standard (non-variant) market price... so in theory, the result is always the same, but there are market situations which definitely impact the prices. When a book has not been sold for a long time, there is "pent up demand" that can't be predicted with a simple formula, but it is known/actionable by potential buyers. When there is sudden "hype", as you mentioned, the formula doesn't reflect a new price (unless the hype somehow impacts the non-variants too).

While it would be possible to make a formula that takes everything into consideration, it still wouldn't be perfect and we'd lose the few people who actually enjoy the simplicity. :D

There is an 'it" factor. For a variety of reasons, I think if you look at VH1 and VEI and said what is the book all collectors/fans need to have, not desire most, that would include books that aren't easily attainable, but sort of the staple must have book in any collection or it's lacking, they're a 9.8 Harbinger #1 and Divinity #1 1:40 LaRosa. Since there are only 350 or so of the latter, yeah, the fundamentals are strong.
