Wow... this sounds great, and that art looks amazing!

I had found myself thinking it was a bit of a copout to just say that Aric wasn't responding and that's why he isn't involved in BS USA. But no, he isn't just not responding... he is REALLY unavailable! We’ll begin to see Aric’s absence in books like Bloodshot USA #2 where he’s not available, so it’ll start to affect the universe in that way,...

Re: Matt Kindt and the new XO Manowar
Think this right here is what spells Kindt's success, he always leaves a little something to be picked up later. So, in/around issue 18, something from one of the first books will pop back up, if that doesn't keep you on your toes..... Then again, this is exactly how Kindt writes, he's phenomenal at it!KINDT: "There is something in issue 1 that’s gonna pay off in a year and a half. That’s what’s great about thinking ahead, you can plant these things early so that it’s not like we’re flying by the seat of our pants every 30 days. It is a bigger, better story."

They should try something similar with Bloodshot - separate the nanites from him...He has big plans for X-O Manowar that begin with separating Aric from his armor...
That would make a HELL of a series!

Re: Matt Kindt and the new XO Manowar
From the interview with Warren Simons in newsarama about the new Vol. of X-O
That said, you should stay tuned for some pretty big announcements. Several of Valiant’s most popular characters - including some of the more recent additions - will be returning to the forefront of universe very soon.
Nrama: One concept that isn't having a 25th anniversary anytime soon but I want to ask about is the Psi-Lords; they were teased in last year's Free Comic Book Day title, but we haven't seen much of them since. What's going on, Warren?
Simons: These Psi-Lords you speak of...interesting...are they cosmic characters as well?
Well...i always said it, Simons and Dinesh are masters of "teasing" and boooooy, they sure know how to deliver!

Fully on board with the new direction and creative team/s!
Not everything Kindt does is to my taste but his work on Rai has been superb and I think this XO may play to his strengths!
Giorello may just become my new favourite artist! His work on XO 50 was outstanding and the previews of the new series look equally brilliant. Glad they have a string of top artists lined up as some of the artists on the last series (towards the end) were mediocre.
Roll on the new series!

So Venditti spent 50+ issues evolving this character, developing an awareness of a modern mindset in Aric that he realised he needed to exhibit himself in order to fit in to the new world.MATT KINDT: The thing I love about the character is he’s sort of like a caveman in a high-tech suit of armor. That was always what appealed to me about the character, and something we haven’t tapped into a lot. That’s how I approach all my stories: What would it be like if this really happened? If this guy’s in a suit of armor, what would be the psychology of that? You have this guy who’s never seen a cell phone, let alone armor that can fly into space. I wanted to approach it that way and see what that does to a guy, sort of reboot him and bring back his roots in terms of making him a barbarian again, throwing him on an alien planet that’s more low-tech, more like the time he came from.
Now Kindt is putting the character right back on square *SQUEE* one again by reverting him to a primitive, barbaric mindset?

"10 - 15 issues...I have at least a year plotted out" Nothing wrong with a bit of flexibility.
"What happens if the suit gets a hold of someone and realizes it’s essentially bonded to a primate?"
"...we’re making the relationship with his armor more antagonistic. Rather than being a friend of his, it’s a threat to him in a lot of ways."
Again, sounds like retconning to me
I really want to enjoy this new series, but right now I'm strongly getting the impression that Venditti's run is being thrown to the wind somewhat and it seems less like a further evolution of the character is going to occur and more like a devolution.
Oh well, we'll see.

Re: Matt Kindt and the new XO Manowar
But if you pay attention to the part of the quote after what you bolded, "throwing him on an alien planet that's more low-tech, more like the time he came from", it sounds like Kindt is honoring what Venditti has done. Aric's situation has just changed. He has to adjust to his surroundings again. A big part of Venditti's run was about Aric adjusting to his new surroundings, it would not make sense for Aric to not adjust to a new surrounding just because it forces him to be more barbaric.Shadowman99 wrote:So Venditti spent 50+ issues evolving this character, developing an awareness of a modern mindset in Aric that he realised he needed to exhibit himself in order to fit in to the new world.MATT KINDT: The thing I love about the character is he’s sort of like a caveman in a high-tech suit of armor. I like Kindt a lot, but I guess this means we'll discover a really stupid meaning to X-O letters... (Seriously, dude has some weird alphabet pun fetish).
