The top 15 Valiant superheroes by CBR

I've been savaging this list on Twitter. Had to be done by someone who barely reads Valiant. No Livewire, Harada, Mary-Maria...etc.

Some are kind of head scratchers as well. Would have dropped Faith down about 3-4 spots

I could see Livewire, but this is a superhero ranking, and Harada and Mary-Maria are supposed to be villains (although Valiant villains are really quite blured)

Harada is very much a hero to the people he's helping. You are correct with Mary-Marie, but she does do heroic acts helping Archer.

Also, I know she's ridding high now, but no way does Faith get over X-O and Bloodshot.

I thought it was a good list

I know hero and villainy is blurred in the valiant universe ... but for the most part Harada is a villain

Livewire is a great hero but I can't argue her over the people who were picked.

Faith being #1 is not where I would put her ... but its understandable in that she is unique and lovable type of hero

I didn't read every write up -- but the ones i read looked accurate

don't see anything wrong with the list.

we need to encourage more write ups like this so Valiant gets more attention and to introduce these characters to new readers

You wouldn't put Livewire over Q&W? I love Q&W, but she's had a much more profound impact on the Universe then either of them.

I just felt the list was lazy and uninformed. Like it was generated by a random twitter follower.

they had to be somewhat fans, or have some type of base knowledge. Q&W being on the bottom is about right, they should be on the bottom. Faith, I can see why, but I agree, it's not where I would put her.

Maybe Livewire didn't make the cut because the last we heard a good deal about her was back in the beginnings of XO/Armor Hunters/etc. She made the change, but then kind of disappeared. Sure she has a few appearances, but nothing stable. A book about Livewire would be worth reading, especially if the author blurred the lines of good and bad(Maybe she is more out for herself?).

Nothing stable? You mean like the two years of leading Unity post Armor Hunters? :)

Speaking to a younger, more sophisticated and diverse comic book readership searching for more positive and realistic costumed role models
Usual CBR bs.

I would actually say the top 6 are completely solid, and of the entire list the biggest surprise is Shadowman being as high as he is.

It's more some of the comments within that have me rolling my eyes. Rai "[possessing] most of the same abilities as his antecedent Bloodshot" is completely outdated, since the Blood of Heroes isn't a thing in the reboot. And saying Dr. Mirage is "caught between...her desire to do good in the world and her character-defining need to reunite with Hwen"? What?

(it's my second today facepalm )

My opinion:

pretty "stupid" list. I don't read the old stuff (remember that guy? :D ) but this felt really outdated.

Reads a lot like a misinformed millenial writing about stuff they don't know *SQUEE*. How surprising...

Faith?! Seriously? Because she drops 20000 pop culture references, is a bit overweight-but-f***-that-i'm-always-happy-because-superheroes?

Faith was a shining beacon of light during Joshua Dysart's run. Her presence there was needed because that was a bleak comic. Faith cheered us, readers, just as she cheered her team mates. In other words, I LOVED Faith during Harbinger. As much as you can love a fictional comic book teenager with superpowers. I also Really liked her on her short venture with Unity. The beacon of light, again.

And now she's Valiant's Spider-Man. The character that this company is most known for, apparently. Good for Valiant, I'm damn sure.

But...
I did not become a Valiant fan because of light hearted comics, like current Faith or A+A. Or Q&W, which I collected but gave up on reading. Incidentally, these characters are more famous apparently, than the very best of Valiant's roster.
What is the most important character in the VEIverse? If you don't answer Aric, Toyo or Bloodshot, I think you've been reading a different company's books. This is my personal opinion.
Sometimes I gotta ask: Where's the serious INTERCONNECTED universe of superpowered beings I thought I was going to have, back in '12?

Toyo had interractions with Divinity and so did Aric. Toyo and crew and the H.A.R.D. Corps did go at each other. Bloodshot fought and helped psiots. I am sure there are other cases.

A good rant is a good rant. :)

I typically hate list articles in that they are filler content by some one with a little passing knowledge rather than an in depth piece from a die hard fan. CBR needs articles. They don't have the right people to do them well. Quality suffers. I *SQUEE* you not, I wrote forum reviews with spoilers for fans of comics I shared an interest in and wanted to talk about over there for a while when I was actively posting. I would get 5000 views for a small book like Moon Knight. They could have some one do a front page review and get maybe 200 article views... Either I am secretly just that bad *SQUEE* or they need to reconsider how to do content people will appreciate.

It's always PRS, psiots for the most part. Toyo and Divinity was cool as *SQUEE*, and so was Ninjak and Shadowman.
I don't remember a single event that was felt across all the books at the time, honestly. Harbinger Wars and Armor Hunters were close, but there were books being published att that did not interact at all with what's happening. If New Mexico goes to *SQUEE*, I want to read about it in Shadowman or Ninjak. Something like that is really missing.

What I want is a huge event that ties every character, DC/Marvel style. At least we would get some interactions between the characters.

Not constantly. Once in every 2 years or so. These creators are doing their thing and that's cool and all, but this is a shared universe: they should expect to be included in some Big Event, every now and then.

Solid list. Faith has so much momentum right now. It seems like so many non-Valiant readers are buying it.

They do, i would prefer every 5 years or something. 2 years is just 24 issues.

The rise of the Vine Planting Liberation Army could be considered something of a Red Skies Crossover, since they wound up having big impacts on XO, Imperium, and Faith at all around the same time.

Beyond that, I'd really love an event where Rai, War Mother, and Axia manage to intersect with the modern-day Valiant universe, especially since we technically now have two time-travelers running around.

Emphasis mine.
That is the type of thing I want to see, also. Bring all the corners of the VEIverse together beyond more than that splash page from BoD. :thumb:
And, personally, I can't wrap my head around the fact that Harada and the Deadside haven't "met" yet. There's this guy, most powerful Psiot on Earth, a peace-seeker by all means necessary, and he doesn't care that there is ghosts and magic more powerful than his Perfect Species? Why no Harada vs Darque, so far? Toyo doesn't think Darque is that much of a threat?

It's a personal beef I have with the universe, I know. And I don't want Harada running into everything, but Deadside is too big of a risk for Earth, at least in my mind. The most powerful beings should worry about it.

Damn! I'm enjoying the brainstorming going on here, these are great ideas! Harada vs. Deadside? That sounds amazing! I would also love to see Rai and War Mother team up, great combo! Sprinkle in time travel, and that's a kick arse team!!

Can she do much for Rai, no offense?
