Ebay listing in USD?

Post by GGSAE »

Hey guys, it seems Ebay has changed its policy once again on listing items in USD (I'm based in Canada). When did this go into affect? This really blows because I went through the arduous task of setting up a US dollar-based account in a foreign subsidiary of my bank with the benefit of being able to transfer USD between my paypal and checking accounts.....man this company never ceases to amaze me on the ways they *SQUEE* people off!

What does this mean? As a Canadian you can't charge American prices?

Exactly! So you won't be receiving payment in USD, and you need to make adjustments to the price to change for the lower currency. Also, for me, the stronger USD covers some of the buffer I may undercharge for shipping (e.g. if I feel a package costs $7-8 Canadian, I'll charge that USD to cover the few times it costs me more than what I quoted the seller). For me though, not being able to accept USD is a super pain in the *SQUEE*.

Canadians get screwed with the eBay special shipping program and wait longer for packages. Most pay duty on every single order even though there is no proof that the money goes to customs. And there is an opertunity to pay a second time if they decide to hold it. Now we can't sell in American prices. This is so one sided and unfair. I can understand it being a pain to figure out the price and the Canadian can change daily. EBay is making it so Canadians are singled out yet again. Well screw eBay I'm not being it.

Basically I closed my eBay store down because of this.
After I migrated 500+ store listings to ebay.com (using USD) a month or so ago I currently cannot relist my current auctions in USD anymore. Gives me an error. It forces me to convert back CDN manually.... 500+ listings. Ebay support says can't/won't fix this and many Canadian sellers are stuck with the same issue. Also they can't convert me back to ebay.ca settings and fees so basically I am forced to list in CDN and STILL pay fees in USD!

With the pending Canada post strike looming I said screw it and deleted my ebay store subscription! I'm on a selling hiatus until end of August now and I'll weigh my options then, not sure if selling on ebay will happen again.

I hear ya, I might have to do the same. Just sell on forum sites like CGC, or locally.....I already went to all the trouble to get a US-based bank account so I can maintain that same currency.
