Wow....just, wow....
So I'm in the middle of one of my pilgrimages to my home away from home in central florida and I say to myself: "hey, let's drop into a LCS to see what the poop is..."
So I head into Coliseum of Comics in Kissimmee, and after finding nothing of particular interest I say: "hey, where are your back-issues of Valiant?"
Direct Clerk Quote: BLANK STARE and "oh, IF we had any that would be in the 50 cent bins, when they are worth so little we don't bother sorting or tracking them."
wow....that's all I had to say...wow....
Needless to say within 1 minute I was out and will not be heading back.

I wouldn't be out the door ... I'd be looking in those 50 cent bins for some Pre-Unity GOLD!

I love when they are in the 50 cent bin that means I can find something good in there...

Yeah, well, unfortunately that is where you'll find pretty much everything Post Unity. But I do love digging through bins. Shops that know nothing about Valiant are good places to dig for gold.

I've found quite a few early Solar, Rai and Magnus issues in those bins.jmatt wrote:Yeah, well, unfortunately that is where you'll find pretty much everything Post Unity. But I do love digging through bins. Shops that know nothing about Valiant are good places to dig for gold.

Re: Wow....just, wow....
Before the movie news I had a shop pulling valiant from collection they bought and selling to me for .25 each. Had to pick up dreck.. But I got probably 30 preunity books inculing minor keys and some late issues as well out of it.
After the movie news though they started seeding their back issue bins again.

Re: Wow....just, wow....
Back when the speculator crash happened, there used to be a lot of shops with this kind of mentality. I would dig through the bargain bins and gladly relieved them of their "worthless" books.....
Re: Wow....just, wow....
He's not wrong. At the last convention I was at, they were indeed 50 cents a pop, and since I was buying so many of them the guy ended up giving me a discount (like I bought 25 of them, and he just said, "Ahh, 10 bucks."). He had boxes of them that he said were sitting unopened in a warehouse since the '90s, so there were like ten copies of each book, as well. And they were all in pristine condition as far as I could tell. I ended up just buying one issue of each, though.
I thought the reboot would make people start considering them as being more worthwhile, but not really, at least a year ago. I'll see what is happening this year when I go to the convention again.

Believe me, aLOT of us have experienced that very same thing when poppin' into a random LCS in wherever.macfarlane wrote:So I'm in the middle of one of my pilgrimages to my home away from home in central florida and I say to myself: "hey, let's drop into a LCS to see what the poop is..."

But if you really want a good laugh, check this out:
A few months back, just fer poops'n'giggles I stopped into an LCS while I was on travel (in FL, also, BTW), and they actually had several V1 books in their regular back-issue boxes...ALL marked at 1993 Wizard prices

Just to clarify, I asked the guy how much he wanted for the stack in my hand. He said: "EXACTLY what they're marked at."
Seriously

Yeah, shops here in FL are mostly picked out of VH1 by myself and a few others I've apparently been a few steps behind. As far as VEI, there aren't many shops around my area that order the books..... And none that order all of them any longer.
