Re: Britannia
Maybe it will further detail the past of the Valiant Universe? Similar to how Rai/4001 shows the future, Britannia will explore the past in greater detail than we've seen before.
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

Re: Britannia
Seems likely. The art is reminiscent of Legends of the Geomancer (ancient story).Keith wrote:Maybe it will further detail the past of the Valiant Universe? Similar to how Rai/4001 shows the future, Britannia will explore the past in greater detail than we've seen before.
The term "Brittania" basically implies 2,000 years ago up to around 1600AD (or even current). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Britannia" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
As a character (rather than a location), Brittania could easily be the Valiant version of Wonder Woman.

Re: Britannia
Real stuck on this one. A phalanx? That's ancient Macedonian/Greek...not a Roman strategy as far as I recall...which would be the appropriate group for an historical "Britannia" involving a Roman Legion v. Native Brits.

Depends on how long the weapons are that are stiking out. That's speculative.BugsySig wrote:Real stuck on this one. A phalanx? Actually before the marian reforms the romans used the phalanx formation. The Triarii, made of the wealthiest man in the army, fought in a phalanx formation. They were considered an elite unit.BugsySig wrote:Real stuck on this one. A phalanx? They got rid of that formation after some time, because it wasn't flexible enough. By the time the roman legions were established, so after the marian reform, they didn't use it at all anymore.
However this doesn't look like a typical phalanx. In the classic greek phalanx the spears were carried over the shoulder. Like this:
while a macedonian phalanx the spears were longer and were carried more towards stomach or hip. Like this:

Not that it's impossible its Roman, just that the Phalanx is mostly associated with Greek and Mecedonian tactics.Thomas wrote:Actually before the marian reforms the romans used the phalanx formation. I agree with the person who said they thought this image was more in line with Savage, while the Savage image seems more in line with Britania. We shall see...

About a million years ago I used to play a PC game based on Alexander the Great and employing his hammer and anvil tactic was lots of fun. Set up your anvil with phalanxes and hammer the enemy into them with cavalry flanking attacks. It was like a precursor to the Total War series.

Hm, interesting image with no context, the soldier's eyes seem to convey that he and his comrades are over-matched.
Britannia brings to mind King Arthur.

I've never seen that game or the artwork before. I think entire dissertations could be written about it. Oh well, I'm off to the internet to learn more.
