Re: Quick reference for Valiant first appearances
Have the various cameo appearances of new characters in the original valiant universe always been more desirable than their first full appearances.
i.e. E/W and X-O #4 seem more sought after than Rai #0 and Shadowman #1
Or is this something new as I hear people talk more fondly about Rai #0, when discussing Bloodshot, but the market seems to be forging ahead with E/W. Am I missing something?

You may have read this already on the CGC boards, but:gaz2810i wrote:Have the various cameo appearances of new characters in the original valiant universe always been more desirable than their first full appearances.

People talking fondly about Rai #0 are people that read the books. Some of the market is based on what people want and a larger part is based on what people think people want, which may explain the additional attention on EW #4.Traditionally it could probably be argued that cameo firsts were more sought after, but large factors in that are:
• people went after Valiant first appearances back in the day the way people go after first appearances now, once a character has been announced to be in a movie
• Valiant would often release news of a new series, but not where the character was first appearing
• When the cameo dropped, people would hoard that first issue as soon as the news was out that the new character was in it, but the subsequent issue with the full, everyone had the chance to pre-order, so those that wanted them got them. Therefore, the cameo was the one people had to hunt for. It was never so much an issue of a cameo vs. a full, but rather an issue of who had the books that people wanted. After 20-25 years a lot of those issues have gotten into the hands of the people that wanted them
If you're not a *SQUEE*, you're okay with me.

Re: Quick reference for Valiant first appearances
Given the popularity of Livewire since the launch of VEI and the probable appearance in a future Harbinger movie it's odd that the price of Harbinger 15 is dirt cheap?FormerReader wrote:Any other key 1st appearances of 2nd tier characters?

Print run on Harbinger #15 (1993) is pretty high... and that Livewire is very different from the current one.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:Given the popularity of Livewire since the launch of VEI and the probable appearance in a future Harbinger movie it's odd that the price of Harbinger 15 is dirt cheap?FormerReader wrote:Any other key 1st appearances of 2nd tier characters?

It's a tough call whether Harbinger #15 will ever pop as a first appearance book.
You never know, though... I didn't think Bloodshot #6 would ever matter (because there are so many of them) and it has become popular in CGC 9.8.

Re: Quick reference for Valiant first appearances
Yeah, I agree that the current Livewire is so different to the original it lessens the link between the 2. I recently read Harbinger 15 and had to go back to re-check which one was Livewire as it doesn't reference her code name in the book. Initially I thought the character 'shaniqua' might have been her (both black females) but obviously it wasn't!greg wrote:Print run on Harbinger #15 (1993) is pretty high... and that Livewire is very different from the current one.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:Given the popularity of Livewire since the launch of VEI and the probable appearance in a future Harbinger movie it's odd that the price of Harbinger 15 is dirt cheap?FormerReader wrote:Any other key 1st appearances of 2nd tier characters?

Re: Quick reference for Valiant first appearances
I think the current Livewire blends the best concepts of original Livewire and original Randy Cartier (X-O #12 first appearance, X-O #21 looks more like the current Livewire).

Re: Quick reference for Valiant first appearances
Harbinger #15 is also the first full appearance of Stronghold after the last-page cameo in #14, so there's that. I'd say that #15 is more a cameo of Livewire than a first full, so 16 might be a key as well, especially since it's both of their first covers. And actually now I'm wondering what the first cover of the new Livewire is. Just checked and it looks like Harbinger 10.greg wrote:Print run on Harbinger #15 (1993) is pretty high... and that Livewire is very different from the current one.Dallow Spicer1 wrote:Given the popularity of Livewire since the launch of VEI and the probable appearance in a future Harbinger movie it's odd that the price of Harbinger 15 is dirt cheap?FormerReader wrote:Any other key 1st appearances of 2nd tier characters?

Re: Quick reference for Valiant first appearances
If I remember right the Vvss Bloodshot 6 doesn't have anything embossed on it. Some of the Vvss books can't be faked because they're different other than the cert, but if I remember right, that's not one. I could go check, but am being lazy.
