Archer & Armstrong #2 Discussion
Another not-so-bad issue. It's fairly entertaining but the art is not really growing on me and the story is alright. If things don't pick up in the next few issues, I might consider dropping. I want to enjoy this book and give Rafer Roberts and LaFuente a fair chance.
The dialogue between Archer and Armstrong while gagged reminded me a lot of Arseface from Preacher, and was probably my favorite part of the issue. I'm intrigued enough to see what happens next, but something just seems missing from this series so far and I can't put a finger on what it is.

I liked this issue much more than last. It felt more true to the characters and the story grew on me. Art still makes it quite cartoonish, but overall better.

Re: Archer & Armstrong #2 Discussion
The first issue didn't connect with me at all. I loved David Lafuente's take, but the humour fell flat.
THIS ISSUE, however... consider me a full fledged convert to the Church of Rafer Roberts. LOVED the interaction between them, the setup and knockdown of parallels between Aram's behaviour towards the forbidden fruits of his friend's romantic interests. The narcissism of Bacchus. The two greenies stunned eyes peering through the blood on their faces of their slain companion.
All the characterization was on point for me.
And which suave serenader's visage did the misty entity from the bag adopt? My money is on Neil Diamond. Maybe that's obvious to everyone but me, but when I think of Neil Diamond, (which isn't often), it's usually his older look.

Re: Archer & Armstrong #2 Discussion
Archer's comments about how angry he has been lately resonated with me. Upon further reflection, I wonder if this was a trend we were seeing even back in Van Lente's issues, especially post Dark-Archer.

The liquor mask scene sold me on the title. I haven't laughed that hard reading a comic since The (great) Delinquents ended. The second page is ridiculous.

Re: Archer & Armstrong #2 Discussion
I'm starting to feel the vibe. I like that they took the time to recount past escapades to make readers feel re-assured that continuity is still in place.
The art still makes it seem out of sync with all that came prior but it reads like a typical AA issue.

I am 100% into this. Love the humor, the continuity, the art works really well and the story is just FUN!
Great issue all round that reads surprisingly meaty. Full of goodness in this one.

One of the better looks at what makes Armstrong tick, and why so many people get aggravated with him. I'm enjoying this book!

I like that they are addressing the Aram / Mary Maria fling. I don't like that it ever happened but I'm glad to see they're trying to rectify the relationship with Archer and Aram.

I agree I like that they are digging into Armstrong's personality and revisiting the Mary Maria issue, but I'm still not a fan of the silliness of the book and I really don't enjoy the art.

Re: Archer & Armstrong #2 Discussion
Funny how the last issue had so many here worrying that Archer and Armstrong were getting increasingly flanderized, only for this issue to show that, yes, Roberts did read Van Lente's run and is intent on following through on those threads.
Overall very much an improvement over the last. The humor is still zany but feels much better executed (with the dynamic art helping a good deal), the character development is nicely done, and the references back to A&A's previous adventures were very appreciated. Roberts so far hasn't topped Van Lente's run, but it's certainly settled as a worthy replacement.

Time to eat my hat.
I actually LOLed while reading this. Meaty read, also. Honestly, I am very (pleasantly) surprised by this second issue- maybe I now am used to Davey.
The drinking torture device and M-M's speech sold it for me.
Almost a 180º turn.
EDIT- I have to give it to RR for not p***ing on FVL's work, as I feared after the first one. Very nice to see that the mand did his homework- he maybe could have given us more of it on the debut.

Great issue! While the art isn't what I typically prefer, I feel it works here. I hope Mary Maria is around for more than just this first arc.
