These are great points!Ricomortis wrote:If Harbinger hadn't ended... We would not have had Imperium! That my friend would have been a bigger mistake.
If Archer & Armstrong hadn't ended.... We would not have had Ivar, Timewalker, which was an absolute masterpiece by FVL. That comes from someone who HATES time travel and the original Timewalker.
If Eternal Warrior hadn't ended... you might not have got Divinity or now Faith... Who knows?
If Shadowman hadn't ended... You might not have got The Valiant or Dr. Mirage... Who knows?

Don't know how people can say the universe doesn't feel closely-knit anymore when it feels more connected than ever right now.
Archer is a supporting character in Faith along with Torque and @x. The antagonists were revealed to be a vine cult
In Imperium we have just seen them take on The Vine (with flashbacks explaining the secret history of the harbinger wars), right now in Imperium we have livewire and the actual H.A.R.D. Corps too.
X-O is teaming up with Ninjak once again
Ninjak just had an arc with Punk Mambo and Shadowman
Bloodshot is working with Ninjak in Analog Man where we also saw X-O armors, Faith, Torque, Animalia and a cult based on Shadowman.
Bloodshot Island is coming up which has Quiet Man from the Vietnam Unity team
When was the last time we had so much going on at once?

Re: I might be out on Valiant
There's plenty going on. There's lots of various characters in various books. Being told it's connected, doesn't automatically make it all feel connected. It feels disjointed and makes me say, they're trying but why doesn't this feel more connected? At worst, it sometimes feels forced. I wish I could put my finger on it exactly, but there's just something missing in the VEI connected universe.Brapbrap wrote:Don't know how people can say the universe doesn't feel closely-knit anymore when it feels more connected than ever right now.

As for me, I'm out of the thread because I'm still "in" on Valiant and don't wish to prolong what might be seen as negativity to passers-by.
I'm also pretty excited about what's headed our way. 4001 is very promising, Divinity II arriving soon and new characters in the pipeline.

I totally agree with Brapbrap on this one. There's a *SQUEE* load of crossover in the books right now and I'm not really sure why people are saying they don't feel that there isn't much of it. Going back to Swiftmann's comment, I guess it's just a matter of perception at the end of the day for all of us here. He and I are on the opposire polar ends of the spectrum: the content's there in the books, but I percieve the universe as super-connected and he percieves it as disconnected. Simply comes down to reader interpretation I suppose.
Regarding "most titles being ongoing": That's unlikely to happen for the time being with VEI limiting themselves to 9-ish issues on the shelves at any one time so that a reader can read everything from month to month, which personally I think is a wicked way of handling things, especially if you want your reader to benefit from picking up on the 'nods' to other comics from the ones that are on the shelves at any point in time. They do this so that they can maintain rotation of comic lines to add variety to the franchise: Going back to what I've said in previous posts now, it seems as though readers here feel that the lack of 'ongoing' titles is a detriment to the cohesion of the universe, so perhaps it would benefit VEI to have 4/5 ongoing issues at any one time (like Bloodshot, XO, Harbinger, Shadowman or whatever) and rotate the remaining 4/5 issues to keep the variety on the shelves?

Which means we currently have six ongoing titles, four of which will be around for a while. Hell, Bloodshot seems like it will make it to 50, what with the being written past 25 already.
So I'm willing to wait on more ongoings, because we currently have a few. It just hasn't sunk in yet.

So current ongoings are basically:
- A+A
- Ninjak
- Eternal Warrior
- Bloodshot reborn
- Imperium(? - How many more issues are there supposed to be?)
So four definite ongoing titles, maybe five if Imperium is planned to run as far as #25... Guess that leaves the space to fit the 4001AD event books in over the summer then, and then perhaps a new batch of miniseries in the Autumn with these books (above) still ongoing.

Well for now, all we know is that the last Imperium issue solicited is in May, with issue #16. As this is the end of the Stormbreak arc, this could be the end of the series.Shadowman99 wrote:I think you might be right about 'having ongoings' having not sunk in yet, because when I wrote that message yesterday I honestly couldn't remember what's supposed to be ongoing at the moment aside from Bloodshot, that isn't announced as ending soonhunter_peterson wrote:I definitely would like more ongoings. - Geomancer in Rai
- Master Darque in Book of Death 'crossing over' with Geomancer and Eternal Warrior
- New Unity team in Book of Death
- 'Fall of...' issues relating to both past and future events of other books
- 'Past' events from XO and Bloodshot mentioned in Bloodshot: Reborn
- Shadowman cult in Bloodshot: Reborn
- HARD Corps in Imperium
- Divinity in Imperium
So... Plenty of crossover lately right?![]()
Going back to Swiftmann's comment, I guess it's just a matter of perception at the end of the day for all of us here.
It just hasn't sunk in yet.![]()
Plus, we still have X-O running till issue #50, which will hit in September. I'd say that still deserves a spot on the ongoing list.
Good Morning, that's a nice tnetennba.

Re: I might be out on Valiant
This has been an interesting thread to read and follow the last few days because it is a combination of several threads that have occurred recently. Too many variant issues, a lack of a cohesive universe, and the mini-series and reboots that are occurring are just a few of those themes.
I agree with what others have said and that I just am not excited to own "everything" as I was at the beginning. The variants that I have bought are worth less than I paid for them, so why keep buying them?
I tend to pile up the monthly issues until I get a complete story arc, so why continue to buy the monthly issues and mess with bags and boards?
Switching to trades and Deluxe HC's just makes more sense to me right now.
I still believe in VEI and want to read the stories, but my collecting habits have definitely changed. I will continue to support them by buying the trades and HC's and an occasional splurge on a GOLD book.
Long live Valiant and bring back X-O as soon as possible!

I wonder if one thing that maintains my attitude toward Valiant comics is that I've always avoided variant covers, etc (Did go for the chromium Armour Hunters covers though, 'cos they were cool!): because I've only ever bought comics for the story content within, with no desire to speculate with the comics in the future, any feeling that I have toward the comics is based purely on the story content without anything else to complicate things - to date I've always thought Valiant comics have been more or less damn good!
Lately, as I've been working on my degree, I've not had much time to read Valiant and I end up 'missing' it after a while, so anytime I get a bit of time off to sit and read through a stack of comics and catch up on events I tend to find it enjoyable, which probably helps too. I'm also still happy to read everything Valiant: there's been no series (other than Dead Drop, but I read it anyway

Everyone here should just enjoy whatever Valiant books they want to read (and skip the ones they don't!) and buy them in whatever format suits them best
