Absolutely loved the art in this issue - Ryp is fantastic as usual. The splash pages! OMG!

Some great contrasts in the panelling style placing the brutal attack on the village against Gilads peaceful hunting scenes. Some very well written stuff here, I felt it was a really gut-wrenching tragedy that Gilad's first family is killed/kidnapped.

I'm intrigued by the origins of Kalam here, Gilad made a point of saying he was named after Gilads father - who could Kalam senior be, possibly the Eternal Enemy? :hm:

Probably one of the most dialogue full stories from Vendetti. I really enjoyed the whole thing. Ryp did a great job showing the story.

The colouring to separate the flashbacks... :thumb:

I buy nearly everything Jordie Bellaire colours. She does a great job separating the density of Ryp's renderings and always puts the story first.

This series didn't really do strike a chord for me in the first issue, but the series as a whole has blown me away. I think this issue might be in my top 5 VEI books published. It's amazing.

Great art, intrigued to find out who this new enemy is, even more intrigued to find out what the maze is all about! Keep it up.

Ryp is absolutely phenomenal. Venditti's really picking up steam with this title. Wonderful issue.

+1 :thumb: On the story side of things, Gilad is becoming the flashback King, lol

Glad to see they used the same artist as Legends of the Geomancer since this story was also set back in those 'way back' days. Good stuff getting more detail on how (if not why yet) Kalem got kidnapped and Gilad lost his first family (besides his brothers).

I loved the way they displayed Gilad's passive investigation - being able to look at faint signs and evidence and know with exactitude what was there or what went on.

I'm wondering if Kalem's kidnapping even then was the work of the same immortal enemy that is trapping Gilad in the labyrinth in the modern day. Maybe researching even then to discover the secret of Gilad's longevity by way of his offspring?

I had the same reaction to those splash pages. Just incredible! I'll always be amazed at how much detail Ryp can get into his pages.

I'm really intrigued about why those people were looking for Kalam and who sent them. I'm assuming they knew it was Gilad's son and wanted to bring him back to their kingdom to study him somehow? I can't wait 'til the next issue to find out more and am really looking forward to Labyrinth. This book just keeps getting better.

I echo the praise already given here

JJR art is perfect for this time period

Some strong storytelling by V-Ditti ... although the decompression bothers me a bit. I was expecting to find out who this mysterious villain is that has Gilad locked away in the present..

speaking of the mysterious villian ...

In VH1, Immortal Enemy was a character that had different colored eyes ... but of course Immortal Enemy was used already in The Valiant ... so I would assume this character will have a different name? Or perhaps this character will have some connection with the other Immortal Enemy?

FYI -- The Last Enemy was used in FVL's A&A run (He was a creation of The Null)

This is what I was looking for. I really disliked the first arc and was a little concerned where this book was headed. This is finally what I want to see in an Eternal Warrior title. This has quickly become one of my favorite Valiant titles.

My guess is that the enemy will be called Sovereign. They repeatedly use that title.
