I was initially thinking of getting the handbook but decided against it, only because I havent gone back to the other 2 that were published last year and the year prior - plus, if you read most of the comics it doesnt really offer anything new. It is a great entry point for new readers though.

Ok, I'm sold on getting the Valiant Handbook - that cover looks too damn fine to pass up (I might go back and re-read the previous editions too).
Some observations on the Handbook:
1. Emphasis on characters that appear in Rai (makes sense given the 4001 A.D. event)
2. No Renegades apart from Faith (obvious choice to appear given her solo mini)
3. Gn-Gr is larger than life without Unity. Is she set for some sort of prelude role to 4001 A.D.? That would be cool.
4. Neela! Yeah, she's a cool chick, I hope we see much more of her.
5. Shadowman and Punk Mambo look set to get more prominent roles (as evident by the current Ninjak art). Usually these books highlight characters that Valiant is focusing on with upcoming titles/guest appearances
